Davenport keeping nose out of the water -- just
The Mississippi River inched slowly toward a high water mark today in Davenport, Iowa, where residents hoped a makeshift levee could keep the waters out of the heart of the city.
Nasdaq, Dow end lower
Another round of troubling corporate and economic news sent U.S. stocks lower for a third straight session Tuesday. JDS Uniphase, Compaq Computer and AT&T all warned that profits in the current quarter will miss forecasts. Lucent Technologies posted a wider-than-expected quarterly loss. And a survey of U.S. households showed that consumer confidence tumbled in April amid growing corporate layoffs and a falling stock market.

Aviation first: Unmanned plane crosses Pacific
Looking more like a killer whale than a graceful bird, the Air Force's Global Hawk drone became the first unmanned aircraft to cross the Pacific Ocean this week.
Nicks hopes to bewitch fans with 'Shangri-La'
Stevie Nicks' last record, "Street Angel," was released in 1994. Now she's back with a new album, "Shangri-La," and she characterizes the years in between as a time of growth and introspection.
