As promised, here is the first of three new preview utilities for you to play with. Bear in mind that these are unsupported, have not been fully tested, and fall squarely into the category of use-at-your-own-risk. If you choose to try them out, it is very unlikely that you will encounter any serious problems. However, we will not guarantee that, and if you wake up to find that you have been changed into a llama or something, well, don't say we didn't warn you.
Boy, now THAT should make you anxious to try these out, huh?
By the way, each of these utilities, will consist of 1 or more files jammed into a .zip file. In each file will be a temporary readme document; especially in the case of the Tweakomatic and the Runomatic, it might be a good idea to at least PRETEND to read those before you start messing around with the software.
[Important note: We are well aware that many people could care less about our utilities; they just want to read our readme files. These are bland and boring TEMPORARY readme files. If and when we release these items to the world, we will rewrite the readmes in our own ... inimitable ... style. And, yes, we are well aware that there are lots of good reasons why no one even TRIES to imitate our style.]
If you have questions on or problems with any of these utilities, or if you have suggestions on how we can improve them, please email me at gstemp@microsoft.com. Otherwise, have at it, and feel free to pass copies along to all of your friends.
Oh, yeah: This first utility is the Comparomatic, a little reference tool that compares the WMI classes, methods, and properties found on Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 98. Following hot on its heels will be the Tweakomatic and the Runomatic.
Again, if you have questions about any of this, please let me know (although there is little chance I will be able to answer any of them until Thursday or Friday of this week).
Thanks all!
