Thinking of Buying A Puppy????
Please Read

This is just my insite as to what is out there in the world that most people don't know about some puppy broker's. I have talked to more than one person in my day about puppies they have gotten that became sick within 48 hour's, no paper's, etc. Pedigree unknown! And some of these place's that are so called no kill shelter's are big problem's. I can only write about what I know as fact in my neck of the wood's. Here in Indiana there are animal swap meet's, I have a friend that sell's ducks, birds, quinea pigs, just mostly small pocket pets I guess.

So one time I went to see her at a swap meet hoping to see some other neat animal's and expected them to be  taken care of as my friend does. Clean cage's, water, shade if it's hot. You know just the simple thing's to make them comfortable. Well I was in for a shock to say the least. There were Dog's by the dozens in wire cage's, most of the time not big enough to turn around in. No food, no water, no shade.I knew better than to pick one up, as you can just tell, not to mention I know they do not worm or give shot's of any kind.

You can pick up a rat terrier for less the $25.00, no paper's either. Most of these people are Amish and breed these dog's  as they would  rabbits. My heart sank and I have never been back.

You want to pick everyone of those poor pups up and bring them home and just love them. Like I said, I saw this first hand, and know most people have no idea what is out there and how these dog's then end up with puppy broker's who then sell to people that  just don't know.!!!  So please do your home work or it can cost you big buck's in vet bills and a broken heart. Ask many, many question's and if the don't answer even one turn and walk away.

Indiana member-Heartbroken!

I have to say it is the same way in Ohio. They have the same type of places in my state with the Amish mainly being the breeders.
Then there are the brokers that buy the pups dirt cheap and quickly resell these pups for big bucks and tell the customers that they can register them with CKC or UKCI.  Which unfortunately is true.
There are many problems with this, and my dogs are registered with UKCI, but I can go back to the Great Great grandparents. If you purchase a puppy that is UKCI registered, make sure the breeder can show you the family tree behind your puppy. Pictures are a bonus, and serious breeders have pictures, weights, height, and other pertinent info available.

Please, when buying your pup, ask alot of questions, you are not being rude, just a concerned buyer offering a forever home to a dog that will be a member of your family for 15-20 years!
This is the type of person I want to sell my babies to!
If you buy from a swapmeet or Pet Store, you are promoting Puppymills!
This is just my opinion.
But I back up my words with lots of info. If you need any help at all, contact me, I usually don't have pups to sell, but I will help you find a healthy puppy that you won't have to worry about health problems.
Problems can occur with any breeding, but the breeder should stand behind there puppies.
What's the matter with a Guarantee against Genetic defects for the life of the pup. I understand, you can't give a refund after a year has gone by, but you can offer another puppy from a different breeding. And keep records of all breedings and how the pups turned out.

So, it is up to the Buyer to learn everything they can about the breeder and don't be hurried into a decision to buy right now. Go home and think about it. Put all the paperwork and pictures in front of you and make your decision from there. You will be glad you took the time in the long run.

UPDATE!!!

I always scan ads for Rat Terriers and basically just to see what is out there!
The brokers are out in full force with there ads. And they are selling Rat Terriers for big bucks!
Just blows my mind!
So what should we do to stop these people?????
Is there a way? Any suggestions welcome. I am not afraid to start something with these people, as I know they don't give a hoot about what serious breeders think. Teresa
