GDR How to Guide

The management of the Great Dane Room would like to welcome you and help you as quickly as possible to use our room to its full extent. This is a simple guide to show you the ropes and answer the most frequently asked questions from our new members. Please take a few minutes to look through the list to find the solution to most of your questions. If you cannot find the answer here, please feel free to contact the managers and one will contact you through e-mail as soon as possible to help you on your way to enjoying our Great Room.

Thank-you for following the rules and board etiquette in the Great Dane Room.

E-Mailing Managers

In the left hand column at the very top, click on 'What's new.' On the right hand side of the 'What's new page', you will see 'Members tools.' Looking down that list you will find, 'send e-mail to managers.' Click on it and a page will come up already addressed to the managers. All you have to do is add a subject into the subject bar and then type what you would like to say, report, or ask the managers then hit send.

How to post a message on the general board.

  1. Left click on where it says 'new discussion.'
  2. When the message box appears, add a subject to the subject line.
  3. In the main area of the message box, type whatever you would like to ask or say.
  4. Left click on send message.

How to reply to a post.

When you want to reply to a certain post on the general board,

  1. Left click on the subject to enter the message threads.
  2. Left click on any one of the replies that are above and to the left side each individual thread.
  3. Type reply in the message box that appears and left click send.

How to attach a file or photo to a message.

Right below the word 'subject' in a message box, you will see a paper clip and the words ' Attach a file.'

  1.  Left click on 'attach a file'.
  2. Left click on the browse button that appears and find the photo or file of your choice and left click 'open.'
  3. Left click on the words, 'attach this file.' They are right below the box the file shows up in.
  4. Finish whatever you are typing in the main part of the message box and left click on send.

How to place a photo or graphic into a post.

Once you have a message box up you,

  1. Left click on the little icon in the tool bar that looks like a stamp with a mountain and sun on it.
  2. Left click on the 'my computer' tab at the top of the box that shows up.
  3. Left click on the browse button that shows up and find the photo or graphic you are wanting to place in the message box and left click on it.
  4. Left click on 'add photos'.
  5. Now this step is the hardest part. Be Patient and don't panic. The photo box you were just using will disappear and so will the chat box but only for a second. The message box will come back up and then you wait for the photo or graphic to show up. This can be quick or take a few minutes, depending on the size and file type you have used.

How to reduce or increase the size of your photo or graphic.

Once you have your photo loaded into your message, left click on it. In the corners and along the side of the photo, little, tiny, white, squares show up.

  1. Mover your mouse over one of the corner squares until it turns into a diagonally pointing arrow with two points.
  2. Left click and drag either towards the center of the photo to reduce, or outward to enlarge, trying to make sure you move horizontally and vertically (diagonally) the same distance in order to keep the proportions of the photo intact.

Enlarging a photo too much will make it fuzzy and indistinguishable.

Having problems with posting a message.

Sometimes an overload of to many temporary internet files causes problems when trying to post. You need to delete your temporary internet files folder. To do this you,

  1. Left click on the start button and then select settings, then control panel.
  2. double-click on Internet Options.
  3. Left click Delete Files.
  4. Check the box for 'Delete all offline content, click okay, close window. (These are only temporary files and it will not harm your computer to delete them.)

We hope this helped you,

The Great Dane Room Management Team.
