Hash Hare GuideTrails

  • Intersections have two puposes. First, they indicate a point on the trail where you may change direction. They are also an indication that up to that point you are on the correct trail. Hares are not allowed to put an intersection on a bad trail. The trail can go in any direction except the direction from which you came. Titty checks are a great way for a Hare to keep the pack together. Front Runners (usually men) must wait for a woman to come to the intersection and either flash the hash or scout the trail for the men. The immunity checks are used to indicate that either the immunity necklace, note, or riddle is some where within 30 ft.

Off Road Intersection: used when you can't use chalk to mark an intersection.

  • True Trails are used by the hare to indicate that you are on the right trail. The true trail arrow has three lines thru it and the off road true trail is simply an arrow made out of powder. Caution! Smart Ass Hares sometimes like to fool the pack and screw with shortcutters. They will lay arrows that have 1, 2, or even 4 lines thru them. So pay attention to what you think is a "true trail"

  • Bad Trails are what can make a hash fun or an all night man hunt. A BT marking simply means that at the last intersection you choose poorly. The best thing to do is turn around and try another direction. Some bad trails will not be marked with any of the bad trail markings below. They will simply end after 3 powder marks. A hare must have a bad trail marking if he lays down more than three powder puffs. We use the markings BT, Three Powder lines (off road), and a YBF if the hare wants to tease you. Another type of bad trail marking is the check back. The Check back will include a number such as, CB 3. If you encounter this you will turn around count the 1st powder puff, the second powder puff, and stop at the third one. The third one has just become a intersection.

  • Go Thru BT: Sometimes a clever hare will lead you down a trail with a BT. You go back to the intersection and go another direction. You come across another chalk marking that says "Go Thru BT". This means that you need to go back down the trail and run thru the BT, and you will find the rest of the trail. Tricky Hares can use this to screw with the front runners. This can also be used with Go thru Check Back. You should expect a "go thru" trick if you find the BT or Check CB more than 7 powder puff's distance.

  • Beer Near: No Trail should be ended without a Beer Near. This marking should only be used within 100 meters of the end or a beer check. At the Survivor Hash we will not tolerate alchohol teasing. However, we do like to screw with the pack by leaving the phrase "Bear Neer" Since we do not require standardized testing to become a hasher we always doop some poor non spelling hahser with this one.
  • "Finish": Hashing is not a race so we want to reward the first running and walking hashers with down, downs. We also don't want to forget our hasher that are the slowest with down, downs too. To help us determine who the offenders are we sign in at the end. The Hare must lay a Finish marking with a place for walkers and runners to sign in. Some Hares like to hide the finish, this is alright but the finish must be within 50 feet of the beer.
