RARE MOMENTS
from Turner_Corner
Rowing through an ordinary week with its infinite capacity for random nonsense and grittiness and glum weather, what strikes me is not so much the wear of everyday sticks & stones, but, rather, the fact that one clear, awesome moment of Light can plunk itself into our day quite without warning and catch us by surprise.
For instance, perhaps you are simply standing around chatting with a fellow human being and the next thing you know -in one split second- the person before you turns out to be something more: an angel in disguise. In that moment, thinking stops. A quick flash of divinity-- and there is no rhyme or reason for it; it's just how things sometimes arrange themselves. Sudden starlight arrowing into the day unheralded and unannounced.
After a glimpse like that all you can do is be silent and say thanks. Experiences of that sort are simply too large to speak about. You know what I mean: the wind can't fit into a teacup.
So there it is. There you are. And when I look back at the week, rolling it out quick like a carpet, that's what I see, clear and stark and sharper than everything else: the encounter with a being of Light. What else is worth remembering?
So I guess the rest of the week can do whatever it wants to do: I had the Moment.

Quotes for Mothers

from SilverStarHawk
The woman who creates and sustains a home, and under whose hands children grow up to be strong and pure men and women, is a creator second only to God.-Helen Hunt Jackson
A mother has, perhaps, the hardest earthly lot; and yet no mother worthy of the name ever gave herself thoroughly for her child who did not feel that, after all, she reaped what she had sown.-Henry Ward Beecher
Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.-William Thackeray
What are Raphael’s Madonnas but the shadow of a mother’s love, fixed in permanent outline forever.-Thomas Wentworth Higginson
There is a religion in all deep love, but the love of a mother is the veil of a softer light between the heart and the heavenly Father.-Samuel Taylor Coleridge
No language can express the power and beauty and heroism and majesty of a mother’s love. It shrinks not where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints, and over the wastes of worldly fortune sends the radiance of quenchless fidelity like a star in heaven.-Edwin Hubbel Chapman
Pride is one of the seven deadly sins; but it cannot be the pride of a mother in her children, for that is a compound of two cardinal virtues-faith and hope.-Charles Dickens

ONLY an 'A' Grade!!!
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington engineering mid term. The answer was so "profound" that the Professor shared it with colleagues, which is why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law, (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following:
"First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. >Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not Belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Ms. Teresa Banyan during my Freshman year, "...that it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you.", and take into account the fact that I still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then, #2 cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze."

Butt Prints in the sand
from Spirit Woman
One night I had a wondrous dream, One set of footprints there was seen, The footprints of the Goddess they were, But mine were not along the shore.
But then some stranger prints appeared, and I asked Her,"What have we here? These prints are large and round and neat, But much too big to be from feet."
"My child," She said in somber tones, "For miles I carried you alone. I challenged you to walk in faith, But you refused and made me wait.
"You would not learn, you would not grow,
The walk of faith you would not know, So I got tired; I got fed up And there I dropped you on your butt.
"Because in life there comes a time When one must fight and one must climb, When one must rise and take a stand Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

Poet of the WEEK!
Sheena
The sky, the moon, the stars, the sun, the eternal blessing fairs. With the power in our hands to mend and heal this horrid land that we call home. It is true for now that I may believe in you to mend the place that we let go. To see the glory and make it so, then we truly shall know the answer to the question in which we do not now. The way the human had an ancestor once again we will make it all so with the blessings of our world. With the wind and water curled, with the land, the fire and the plants we shall be the only homes of many see the gift of life, for some may vary. Goodnight to all may life grow great and may you all find the goodness state.
