Mojo Magick

A Mojo is a visible symbol of desire. It is a spell, tangible Magick (spelled with a "k" to distinguish it from stage magic, or sleight-of-hand). A mojo is the not-too-distant relative of the four-leaf clover, rabbit's foot, wedding ring, flag, and many other modern Magickal symbols. Usually constructed in the form of a charm-bag, a mojo is carried on the person or hung in the home, car, or workplace for good luck, protection, harmony, health, attracting love or money, and so on.

Mojos contain many different things--herbs, coins, magnets, stones, bones, beads, feathers, hair, shells-- depending on the purpose. Every part of a mojo has significance symbolically: colors, numbers of knots, shape, number and kinds of ingredients. The symbolic meanings have been part of esoteric knowledge for millennia, and are the basis of many systems of Magick, such as the Freudian and Jungian. All the parts work together to affect the unconscious mind and get it moving in order to achieve the desired result-- somewhat like waving a red flag in front of a bull, or burning an American flag in front of a US senator. Because, let's face it, the unconscious, powerful though it is, is not too cooperative in achieving conscious desires.

Making and using a mojo is a way of making our deepest wishes solid and tangible, of working things out on the physical level and then taking them back into ourselves. It's all done with symbols, because the unconscious understands symbols. You might say that Mojo Magick is the mirror-image of dreaming, in that dreams are messages from the unconscious to the conscious mind, and Mojo Magick is sending messages back.

Mojo Magick is based on the principles of Similarity (things which seem alike are alike) and Contagion (things once in contact continue to interact after separation).

The Law of Similarity is the basis of the system of Magickal Correspondences; each area of life is ruled by a particular planet, day of the week, etc., and each of these planets rules a number of substances, plants, animals, etc. For example, the area of sex and love is traditionally ruled by the planet Venus, whose day is Friday, whose color is blue-green, whose metal is copper, and whose herbs are (among many others) rose, orris, and sandalwood. If you wished to make a love charm, then, you would pick out herbs sacred to the Goddess in her Venusian aspects, with perhaps a magnet (for attraction), or a copper penny, and place them in a small bag of blue-green cloth.

Along with these ingredients, you would also put in some object belonging to the one you desired--a lock of hair, a fragment of an old shirt, or the like. This obeys the Law of Contagion--you are providing an object link, a physical connection with your subject. A photograph is an excellent object link, especially if the subject's name is written on the back.

It is most important to be clear in your mind what your purpose actually is, and to do only one kind of working at a time. Since the mojo functions on both the magickal and psychological levels as a centering device, you don't want to confuse yourself before you begin. And Magick generally works, so be prepared to get exactly what you ask for, and ask carefully.

To make your Mojo:

1) Cut a med. to large circle out of some fabric, leather, then put small holes all around the edges so you can weave in and out the string, leather strap, and so-on. After you're done doing that, pull the whole thing tightly but softly so it makes a bag, and there you go.
2) Cut a piece of fabric or leather into two equal-sized squares, about 3" by 3". Place them together and sew 3 of the 4 sides together to form an open pouch. Of course the inside will be on the outside, so turn it inside out so it isnt, then fill it with the items for the spell. Close the open end and either sew it shut or run a cord through it as a draw-string to close the bag.
Remember: After the bag is made it needs to be cleansed or all negative vibrations immediatly and charged with magickal powers.
Now that you have made your Mojo bag, or at least know how to make and use one.

Mojo Charging & Magick Spells

It is a good idea never to allow anyone other than yourself to touch your mojo or look in it. If this happens wash the mojo in blessed rain water or holy water and then reconcecrate the bag by the light of a new candle of the apropriate color.

All mojo bags must be the apropraite color for spell.

This ritual is a MUST DO. I cannot even stress to the point of how much this is a MUST. Please do this when making a mojo bag and before you even try to utalize the bag!

Mojo Consecration and Charging: (MUST DO)
Cast a clockwise circle about six feet in diameter and make an altar north-facing in the center of it.
at the right side of the altar (east), place a fireproof incense burner filled with frankincense and myrrh to represent the element of Air.
At the front of the altar facing you (south), place a candle of apropriate color to represent the element Fire.
At the left side (west) place a goblet of water (holy from a church or rainwater that has been blessed by a wiccan preistess or preist -or Pagan-), to represent Water. (in place of water you can use white wine, your fav. perfume or cologne, or magickally apropriate herbal oil)
At the rear of the altar (north) place a small cauldron or dish containing sand, soil, or salt, to represent the element Earth.
Light the candle and incense. Take the mojo bag in your right hand and pass it through the rising smoke of the incense as you say:

BY THE FOUR ANCIENT ELEMENTS
I DO CONSECRATE THIS MOJO BAG
AND DEDICATE IT AS A TOOL
OF POSITIVE WICCAN (PAGAN) MAGICK.
O ANCIENT GODS OF AIR, AND ALL
ELEMENTAL SPIRITS OF THE EAST,
LET THIS MOJO BAG BE NOW CHARGED
WITH THE MYSTICAL ENERGY
OF YOUR DIVINE WHITE LIGHT.

move the mojo bag three times in a clockwise circle around the flame of candle and say:

O ANCIENT GODS OF FIRE, AND ALL
ELEMENTAL SPIRITS OF THE SOUTH,
LET THIS MOJO BAG BE NOW CHARGED
WITH THE MYSTICAL ENERGY
OF YOUR DIVINE WHITE LIGHT.

place the mojo bag down on the altar and proceed to anoint it with three drops of water from the goblet. with your arms outstretched, place both your hands, palm side down, in the ait about six inches above the mojo bag and say:

O ANCIENT GODS OF WATER, AND ALL
ELEMENTAL SPIRITS OF THE WEST,
LET THIS MOJO BAG BE NOW CHARGED
WITH THE MYSTICAL ENERGY
OF YOUR DIVINE WHITE LIGHT.

the final step is to place the mojo bag in the dish or cauldron of sand, soil, or salt, and then say:

O ANCIENT GODS OF EARTH, AND ALL
ELEMENTAL SPIRITS OF THE NORTH,
LET THIS MOJO BAG BE NOW CHARGED
WITH THE MYSTICAL ENERGY
OF YOUR DIVINE WHITE LIGHT.
BLESSED BE IN THE NAME OF THE GODDESS
AND IN THE NAME OF HER CONSORT
THE GREAT HORNED GOD.
SO MOTE IT BE!

after the concecration ritual has been performed, cop the mojo bag between your hands and gently breathe upon it as you direct your thoughts and intentions into it. The charged mojo will respond to the energy of your will.

Now that you have concecrated and charged your mojo, or at least now know how, please go to my "More Mojo Spells" page for actual mojo spells.
I realize my "Mojo Magick" page said to go here for Mojo Spells, but I REALLY needed to stress the importance of this ritual before I let you know the spells to do with your mojo. Thanks for your patients!

Love Mojo:
To attract love, fill a red or pink flannel or chamois mojo bag with some Venus-ruled herbs (catnip, mugwort, or yarrow), a heart-shaped piece of sun-dried lemon peel, a piece of red or pink coral, a lock of your own hairm and any of the following roots of love magick: Adam and Eve root, Beth root, ginseng root, John the Conqueror root, Mandrake root, Orris root.
Seal the bag; consecrate and charge it, and then wear it daily on a white string or gold chain around your neck.
If you have a particular lover in mind that you wish to attract, fix your thoughts on that person (especially as you make the mojo bag), chant his or her name often, and secretly run the mojo bag whenever you are in his/her presence.
To keep the magick potent and to prevent negativity from stopping its powers, you should anoint the bag once a week on a friday evening with three drops of pink champagne or rose oil, and then pass it through the rising smoke of burning patchouli incense.

Uncrossing/Hex-Breaking:
To break the power of any hex or evil curse, fill a red flannel mojo bag with equal parts ague weed, dog rose, and five-finger grass.
Seal the bag; concecrate and charge it; then carry it or wear it daily. be SURE to make the mojo bag on a night when the moon is in a waning phase, and this is the proper time to preform all forms of magick that break curses, hexes, and jinxes.

Getting a Job:
To help your chances of getting hired on a job, fill a green flannel mojo bag with some gravel root on a night when the moon is waxing and/or in the asrological sign of Virgo or Capricorn.
Seal the bag; concecrate and charge it, and then wear it on a belt or necklass, or carry it in your pocket or purse every time you fill out an aplication or go for an interview.

Friendship Mojo:
When the moon is in waxing and/or in the ast. sign of Aquarius, fill a pink flannel mojo bag with some joe-pye weed flowers and a tulip bulb or piece of dried mandrake root upon which you have inscribed your full name, birthdate, and sacred Pagan symbol of the five-pointed star within a circle.
Seal, concecrate and charge, and wear or carry it in your pocket/purse to increase your popularity and win friends.

To Induce Prophetic Dreams:
When the moon is full and/or in the ast. sign of Pisces, fill a blue mojo bag with dried mugwort herb.
Seal, concecrate and charge, and keep it under your pillow at night when you sleep in order to conjure forth dreams of a prophetic nature.
