Basic SCT Operation

By Roger Tuthill.
This video, available from Tuthill, is a good introduction to the use of Schmidt-Cassegrain scopes, such as the classic Celestron C-8 that he has sold hundreds of in the past.  If you are thinking about buying a scope in the $1,000+ range, this is recommended viewing.  Available also in the EAAA library.

BBC Resource videos at Barnes & Nobles

By Bob Gaskin.

Since you love all the astronomy information online and on TV I found a new one you might like. Go to Barnes and Noble or other book store and purchase Sky at Night, a publication of the BBC. They have a CD attached to the cover of each magazine which contains LOTS of neat stuff. On the menu are BBC astronomy programs that you can play. I bought the mag last night to check it out and played the CD. The BBC TV program which is on the CD is all about Scorpius. The interaction between the two Brit astronomy gurus was hysterically funny, though they weren't trying to be. But it was a great program with super graphics. Other menu items were interesting as well. The magazine had a very fine article on "Becoming an Astronomer in 7 Days" which I enjoyed. You can also get a good idea of Brit astronomy products, most of which I have never seen or heard of.   --Bob Gaskin

Cosmos on DVD

By Carl Sagan.
This classic is now available on DVD as well as VHS, as the conversion to disk from tape continues throughout education as well as entertainment.  The Astronomical Society of the Pacific has it on 7 DVDs for $170, and you can access it on line at www.astrosociety.org.

Think the great effects and musical score will be even more impressive on DVD, so will try to get a copy for club use in the future.  Our old VHS versions are getting to where they do not track well, anyway.

Voyage to the Planets

By donated by Margret Hildreth.
From Reader's Digest and the BBC, this uses classic musical scores and the gets JPL images and videos to bring planetary exploration to a musical high.  Also available in the EAAA library.
