| The Hidey-Hole of Hope ??Dedicated to Betty and Vinnie?? The idea behind this section is to help share ideas and offer hope & support to folks who have missing pets. From this page you may enter a new board called the The Hope Board is for all of you to post ideas on, or experiences, to help others that may have a missing pet. We know that together we can come up with many things that will help others. ?? Things we are looking for include: -
Things to do when a pet becomes "missing in adventure seeking." -
Little poems, thoughts for the day (a thought to get folks through one day at a time). -
Projects to do (signs, help with writing classified ads, posters and where to take them, ways to notify school kids of rewards). -
Ideas of what would be really enticing rewards. -
How to let folks know what to do if they find a missing pet especially a ferret. -
Links for prayers and support and links to sites that help with missing pets. -
Examples of fliers for folks who need to print them up in a hurry. -
Any other ideas you have to help folks who have had a ferret, or any pet, go missing. -
And importantly, to offer hope and prayers to folks who have tried everything, and cannot locate their furkid :( MNFF managers believe this board can definitely help people if we all try to contribute. If you have a ferret that has gone missing, MNFF Managers suggest the following (please see the Hope Board for more ideas): -
Take it one step at a time (we know it is hard not to panic). -
First.....is there ANY way your fuzzy could have gotten outside? -
Have you or anyone opened the doors at all since you last saw your fuzzy. Think really hard if you did, is there ANY way he could have gotten past you. Is this something they try to do or do they normally show no interest in trying to get past you out the door. -
Have you taken anything out into your garage? -
Have you put anything away in an attic or closet? -
Check all your windows. Have they been open, are there any holes in the screens? -
Now if you are are fairly certain your fuzzy did not get out.....I'm sure you have looked everywhere you can think of, but look again, one room at a time. -
Think like a fuzzy. Look under the couch, bed, behind all the furniture. Look in the refrigerator, under throw rugs. Look in all the bed clothes. Try looking in places you've never seen him before. -
Look in all your lower cabinets and in the drawers above them. -
Look in every closet even if you keep the doors closed. Look especially in your laundry room. Through and behind everything. -
Look really good in his cage if he has one. Sometimes I've panicked only to find them in their cage. Stinkers. -
Look in your garage. -
If you think there is a chance he got outside try putting out treats and food. Call him, squeak toys. -
If this goes on .... and you really think he must be outside, ask every neighbor on your block if they have seen him. Put up fliers right away. Call animal shelters in your area. Look everywhere in your yard and streets surrounding. Put ads in the paper. From Joanne of Ferret Corner Shelter: This page was created to help those with lost ferrets find their way. It is a stepping stone for inspiration, love and most of all hope.
At one time or another everyone frantically searches for a ferret or two. Some turn up to just be sleeping in a new hidey-hole and others turn up to have gotten out of the "safe-zone".
Ferrets are great escape artists. They love to explore and will find ANYWAY out that they can get. Sometimes we can catch the escape routes before they do, other times we are not as lucky. We also will include memorials to pets that have gone missing here. If you would like a memorial added, please simply contact Lily, or the managers and it will be added.
