MULLINS DNA UPDATES HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THE WEBSITE--see: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Mullins/
make sure you copy and paste the whole url listed above

We have been very lucky here lately, and have made some significant progress in
determining the ancient origins of our "core" Mullins family, as well as that of
our Booker Mullins lineage. The skinny of it is this: the core Mullins line we
can now prove descends from among the first inhabitants of Ireland. This is
provable by looking at the Mullins DNA and running a comparison with others whose
lines go way back in Ireland. So, all the old people were right--we do go back to Ireland.

Re: the Booker Mullins lineage--we got the results of additional testing
(called deep-clade) that examined in minute detail every sequence of the
DNA markers submitted and the geneticists have determined beyond a doubt
(what they told us they believed before)---that our earliest ancestor of
Booker was from Southeastern Europe--and lived (before entering into Britain)
in the geographic area of the Balkins. This makes us quite special to the geneticists
who are all very interested to find out more and understand how this might have
happened so long ago. One theory is that Booker's ancestor may have been a member
of an elite group of calvarymen that the Roman legions moved to Britain to guard their
interests and protect the border between what is now England and Scotland.
The DNA markers are quite rare in Britain--not at all what the bulk of British
or even European people have in their genetic history, and so we find ourselves
(and our DNA) to be of great interest to the scientists looking into these things.
If you would like to read more, go the the Project website and click on "Results."

i went to the website and tried to understand it all. i come from my dad
francis mullins whos dad was francis marion mullins married to sarah jane gaunt. his dad was
john mullins married to ruie crabtree. his dad was john mullins married to margret rice.
his father was isom mullins married to leer kitchen. his father was old booker mullins
son of william. does all this mean i am a adkins instead of a mullins?
thank you jacqulline mullins sampson

That is what the DNA evidence is telling us.

Jackie--I wish I had all the answers for you, but the fact is, we are still working on
understanding it all. We believe (but, this is just intelligent speculation at present)
that Booker Mullins SR--p.s. he is found in no records as James Booker--was likely a
child of an (at present) unknown daughter of William and Elizabeth Mullins, and that his
apparent genetic father was an Adkins. William and Elizabeth raised him--that much is
certain, and the other thing that is certain is that genetically (on the male or Y-Chromosome)
he was not a blood brother to either John Mullins SR (1754--Rev. War John) or to John's brother
Ambrose Mullins SR. We believe also that the answer to who Booker's father was lies with more
DNA testing---with other male descendants of the Adkins found in Pittsylvania Co., VA. I am
desperately trying to find a suitable candidate for that additional testing--someone who has
a proven line back to William Adkins who married Elizabeth Parker. That is once again speculation
on my part--but, based on the fact that most if not all of the Adkins (or Adkinsons, as
they are also known) in Pitts. Co. apparently go back to this William--including a Sherwood Adkins
(b.ca. 1728) that we are particularly interested in. Hopefully, we will find someone who fits
the bill--and if the Booker Mullins men match that descendant, at least we will know for sure
which set of Adkins we descend from....Gary

Jackie--you have my permission to post on your site. My work days are really long
(9-10 hours) plus I commute 3-4 hours to and from work--and when I get home, I've got the
DNA Project to work on plus there is usually somewhere between 10 and 20 e-mails waiting for
me to answer--plus, I'm trying to get this Mullins book out ( ! ) so, I just don't have alot of
time---but, you can post and if you get any nibbles, let me know or send em my way. Thanks!
