Medina  Community  Band

Marcus Neiman, conductor

The Medina Community Band (MCB) has been in existence since 1859. As one of the nation’s oldest community bands, its mission is to afford adult musicians the opportunity to perform music as a "life long learning opportunity" and perform for the community. Membership is open to all post-high school musicians without audition. MCB rehearses on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm, September through July at Highland High School, 4150 Ridge Road.

The band boasts a membership of almost 100 on its roster from as far north as Cleveland, as far south as West Salem, as far west as Elyria, and as far east as Youngstown. MCB is a generational band and its members range in age from a youthful 15 to "somewhere in the upper 80s," and entire families playing. Composers have also discovered the band with compositions commissioned for the band by Douglas Court, Robert Feldbush, Stuart Ling, Percy Hall, David Shaffer, and Edmund J. Siennicki.

The Medina Community Band was inducted into the Medina Area Chamber of Commerce "Hall of Fame" on May 1st, 2004 as "a well respected musical group that contributes to Medina’s economy and represents a significant piece of Americana." The ensemble was voted as the "Best Band in Medina County" by the readership of the Medina Gazette.

In addition to their summer concert season (every Friday, June through the end of July) on the Gazebo in Medina’s Historic Uptown Park Square, MCB continues to present an indoor season that features a holiday concert, winter concert, and appearance at the EHOVE Career Center in Milan (OH). The band has also performed at Cleveland State University and Severance Music Hall.
