CALVIN MANSFIELD, a collection of information that leads to the possibility that Calvin was Clark Mansfield's father. (or Uncle?) including some possible descendents - see Note 3 below.

1790 United States Census (one Calvin only in entire Census). Connecticut, Windam County, Voluntown. 2 males under 16 years of age, 2 females (assuming one was Sarah nee Sheldon his wife)
1800 US Census (two Calvins now as heads - see note 2). Connecticut, Windam County, Sterling. Six children. (the other Calvin is in New Haven Co.)
1810 US Census. New York, Ontario County. (only one male between 10 & 16)(still only two Calvins in Census - again the other is in New Haven Co.)
1820 US Census (four Calvins listed as heads - one would be Calvin Jr). New York, Ontario County, Mendon (Mindon ?). Listed side by side are Calvin, Calvin Jr, Clark .
1830 US Census (3 listed, 2 in NY - again Calvin & Calvin Jr) New York, Monroe County, Mendon. (Clark is in neighboring Orleans Co)
1832 Mendon Cemetery, New York, Monroe County, Mendon. Died 14 Oct. and buried with Sarah (died 20 May 1841) in Lot 76
Also buried at the above cemetery, were Calvin Jr., his wife Cornelia, and their son Calvin in Lot 69. (Calvin and Cornelia's daughter Caroline married Albert Simonds and died in Victor, Ontario Co, NY)
Clark leaves for Michigan shortly after Calvin's death and starts purchasing land.
Clark states in a later US Census that he was born in Connecticut.
Research Questions: (notes follow)
1. Is there a Will in the records of Monroe County, New York? No record found in transcription of Probate Records. Calvin found as witness to a Record.
2. Did Asa Hickox list the Father of the Groom, when he married (as Justice of the Peace) Clark to Sarah nee FOX? (note also that there is a Moses FOX also next to the Mansfields in the 1820 Census.
3. Is there an archived Obituary for Clark?
Note 1: There is no reference to a "Revolutionary War" inscription on Calvin's gravestone, There is a (source unknown) file at the Mendon Cemetery listing him as a Revolutionary War veteren.
Calvin Mansfield is listed on a "Payroll Registar" and "Payroll Ledger" (page 31) in the New York Militia commanded by Van Veghten. (Nara Publ. M881)
Note 2: The second Calvin that is listed in the 1800 US Census appears to remain in Connecticut, New Haven County, dying there between 1840 and 1850.
