| Paws by Becky One day I went downstairs to wake up my hammie Paws and discovered a bump over his right eye. I put some Polysporin on it and, ignoring it, put Paws in his ball. The next night I went to get him up. His eye was popping out, and it was drying up!!!!!!!!! I showed him to my mom and we put some Polysporin on it and left him another night. When I got him up the next night, his eye was no better. If anything, it was worse. My mom thought he was in pain so she called the vet and asked them if they could put him down. I was crying and telling her to give him a chance. On the way to the vet, I couldn't imagine Paws being put down. He was running all over my lap, and I thought that was an odd thing to do for a hamster in pain. We got to the emergency office and waited in line. Finally our turn came. The desk lady looked at his eye and asked if we wanted a vet to look at him. I said "Yes, immediately." She took him to a back room for a vet to look at him. A few minutes later, she came back. To our relief, she said that, if we put some Polysporin on his eye, it would eventually shrivel up and fall out. We got back in the car, and we drove home with Paws still running around in my hands and lap. We put Polysporin on his eye as often as we could and fed him antibiotics to clear up the infection. Soon, his eye dried up and fell out. His eye isn't gross. It's closed and looks like he is just closing his eye. We call him Pirate Paws. As a matter of fact, he is sitting in my hand right now. He is barely awake (...he just woke up). So in this story old Pirate Paws proves to be a survivor and also proves that no eye can slow him down by falling out!! ;) © 2003 Becky |
