Ham on the Lam

She went to feed the hamster,
But little did she know
The cage door was wide open.
He'd left not long ago.
The little girl was frantic;
The ham was having fun.
They would both be tired
Before the night was done.
The hamster found an opening
Behind the kitchen sink.
The little girl looked for him
Every place that she could think.
The tiny ham was looking
For something to eat.
The little girl was putting,
In a pail, his favorite treat.
The hamster found some cookie crumbs,
But they were hardly satisfying.
She made stairs into the pail;
then she sat still, spying.
The hamster smelled the yummy treat.
He wanted a Yogurt Drop.
Then he clambored up the bucket,
Fell into it with a 'Plop'!
The girl was so ecstatic.
She let out a cry of glee!
The ham was disappointed,
But he'd find another way to flee...
