Crazy Silly Hamster

by meowmix

At the time when I raised Pookie, he resided in the family room in the basement of our 3 level townhouse.

On one particular night, my mother woke up to a stange shuffling noise. It frightened her, and she was afraid that perhaps an intruder had entered the house.

She promptly woke up my father and told him about the noise. He heard none and told her that perhaps it was the wind she heard.

She insisted that it was not the wind, so my father got up, turned on the lights and walked out of the bedroom to check for anyone or thing. He came back when nothing was out of the ordinary, and calmed my mother down and they settled back into bed to sleep.

Ten minutes later, just as my mother was about to fall asleep, she heard the funny soft shuffling noise once more. This time fearing that some sort of wild animal or large biting insect had made its way into the house she woke my father up once more.

This time he heard the noise, and turned on the light to track the culprit down.

To my parent's surprise, they found Pookie shuffling and rooting through some papers in my mother's nightstand. He had come to make a nest in the nightstand and to share the bedroom with my parents!!

But the most amazing part of it was that Pookie managed to climb up three flights of carpeted stairs (two small flights, one large flight) to make his way into my parent's room. He could've have gone up the two small flights of stairs and tried to cause trouble in the living room and kitchen (the second level in the townhouse), but instead he went up the last flight of stairs to reach the bedrooms.

As amusing as it was to my mother that Pookie had come to visit her in the middle of the night, from then on we made sure that the top of his cage was weighted down so that he couldn't push it off and escape again !!
