What's a cinquain? It's a specific type of poetry. You need not be an English major in order to write one! This is how it works. The first line is one word...the name of the hamster. The second line is two words...both adjectives...describing the hamster. The third line is three verbs...action words... telling what your hamster does. The fourth line is a short summary phrase. The fifth (last) line is the name of your hamster again. The completed cinquain might look something like this... Buddha Black, soft Circling, speeding, seeking The most laid back hamster of all time Buddha I got the idea for this activity from the book Goodbye, Friend by Gary Kowalksi. It's a book about dealing with the loss of a pet. I decided, however, that poetry about pets is good, not only for memorials, but also to honor living pets. Want to give it a try? It's not hard and you can do it fairly quickly. Let's see how many we can compose in honor of our fuzzy friends and I'll post them on this page... Madeline
