Set yourself up for success |
| Here's how the "cool" groups got our attention - - |
They have active managers who show a passion for what they're doing. You can easily see their enthusiasm because the groups have one or all of the following: |
Presentation |
At least one image in the main highlight, creative design, well organized and easy to navigate.
Active Message Boards |
Discussion that is safe for all ages, with frequent participation of the Group Manager.
Technical savvy |
MSN offers great features such as File Cabinet, Calendar, Photo Album and Chat Room. Cool Groups use them well.
Content |
Information that is interesting or useful. Good use of links. If a Group doesn't have all of these but we can see it has promise (i.e., no image in the main highlight of a busy group), the Groups editorial staff may encourage its manager to fix up the main highlight or add more topics to the message board or images to the photo album. The group does not need to have a certain amount of members to qualify. Instead, "Cool" groups are chosen based on the quality of the overall content.

"Cool" icon |
The icon will stay on the group for about 2 months. (Holiday specific groups may be "cool" for a shorter period of time.) Specific number of cool groups are not set per category.
| Time's up |
When you see a group disappear off of the "cool" list, it doesn't mean that it's no longer a great group. Typically, "cool" groups appear with the "cool" tag for a limited time.
| How we find "cool groups" |
The Groups editorial staff is always looking for "cool" groups. Each month we discuss who qualifies as "cool" and mark those that meet the standards.
Once the group is approved, we notify the managers of those groups to congratulate them and let them know why their group was chosen. We cannot promote "Adult" or "Private" groups.
