All That You Can't Leave Behind

By U2. It's awfully easy to dismiss popular bands-- especially when the members refuse to pretend they aren't rock stars. But what U2 has done is astonishing. Formed in 1978, still releasing relevant music in 2005, they never had a member die, never replaced him with another dude, never did a "farewell" tour, never affected blackness and -- to the best of my knowledge -- have never worshipped Satan. The worst you can accuse them of is being big - unabashedly big in sound and space. That thrills me. One of the great shames of my generation is that our rock bands are, generally, wussy little whiners in cardigans afraid to show anything but irony or pain. In an age of supreme cynicism and irony, U2 has the balls to be sincere. Recommended by MSN Nickname7thpostman, 5/13/2005.

How The West Was Won

By Led Zeppelin.
Buy this C.D.

I'm 16, in Brighton, U.K, and have been a Led Zeppelin fan for about 3 years. I'm also into The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Guns And Roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and so on.

This C.D. is live material, taken from 3 concerts Led Zeppelin performed at the height of their fame. The sound quality is superb, and the atmosphere is excellent.

There is a twin to this C.D; A DVD, which is the first ever major release of footage, encompassing Led Zeppelin playing live, interviews, and music videos. I recommend buying both the D.V.D and the C.D.

Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Edgar Alan Poe

By The Allan Parsons Project.
The works of Poe are translated lovingly into musicby Allan Parsons. The songs range in mood and have a unique feel to each. Indeed a musical masterpiece for the ages.
