Rodney J. Getschman, Jr., 71 of Reedsburg, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on December 12, 1933, in Baraboo to Rodney J. Sr. and Jessie (nee Bauer) Getschman. Rodney proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 40 years until his retirement as Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1991. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and two tours of duty in Germany. His last mission with the Army was during Operation Desert Storm. Rodney was a member of the Reedsburg VFW Post 1916 and the Reedsburg American Legion Post 350 and a member of the Vietnam Gun Club.
His parents and a son in infancy, Kerry Allen, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Susan) Getschman of Rockford, Ill., Kim (Charles) Krabbenhoeft of Stering, Ill. and Kandi Hall of Loves Park, Ill.; four grandchildren; his brothers and sister, Donald Getschman of Baraboo, Helen (James) Standiford of Baraboo, Glen (Janet) Getschman of Reedsburg, Ray (Kay) Getschman of Baraboo and Rex Getschman of Baraboo; nieces and nephews, Brian (Blanca) Standiford, Debbie Bindl, Tammy Getschman and Renee Jones; great nieces and nephew, Kelsie Jones and Michael and Jennie Bindl; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Rodney J. Getschman will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Joseph Corbin officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Reedsburg VFW Post 1916 following the service at the church. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials of remembrance may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Reedsburg or the American Cancer Society. Burial will be made at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
