HELLO, ABOUT 17 YRS AGO MY HUBBY AND I WENT TO BUY A PUREBRED AMERICAN COCKER PUPPY. WE WERE HORIFIED BY THE CONDITIONS THESE ANIMALS LIVED IN AND SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE CANADIAN KENNEL CLUB. ANYWAY THIS MALE CAME IN AND JUMPED ON MY LAP. HE WAS A BLACK COCKER AND ABOUT 6 YRS OLD. THE HUBBY CAME HOME AND STARTED BEATING HIM WITH A BROOM. WE FELT SO BAD FOR THE DOG THAT I GRABBED HIM AND TOOK HIM HOME. I CALLED THE POLICE AND TOLD THEM THAT I STOLE THIS DOG AND HE COULD GO OUT THERE AND SEE HOW THESE POOR THINGS LIVED. THIS BREEDER WAS FINALY SHUT DOWN AFTER ABOUT 6 MTHS AND SHE IS NEVER ALLOWED TO BREED, OR OWN ANY ANIMAL OF ANY KIND. THIS DOG NAMED SULTAN CAME AND LIVED WITH US. HE WAS SO GREATFUL THAT WE TOOK HIM. IT TOOK US ABOUT 2 YRS TO TRAIN HIM THAT HIS FOOD WOULD ALWAYS BE THERE AND HE HAD A FENCED 1/2 ACRE YARD TO RUN AND PLAY IN. EVERYTIME I THINK OF THIS POOR DOG IT ALWAYS BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES, BECUASE OF THE CONDITIONS HE AND THE OTHERS LIVED IN. SHE WAS WHAT WE CALL A PUPPY MILL AND THANK GOD SHE CAN NEVER DO THIS AGAIN TO ANY ANIMAL. I ALSO GAVE HIM A GOOD LOVING HOME AND HE REWARDED US BY BEING THE BEST LITTLE COCKER ANYONE COULD HAVE WANTED. SULTAN LIVED THE REST OF HIS LIFE BEING OUR PAMPERED PET AND HE CROSSED THE RAINBOW BRIDGE SOME TIME AGO. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS FUNNY LITTLE FACE AND THE WAY HIS EYES WOULD LIGHT UP WHEN I CAME HOME FROM WORK. SULTAN WAS 17 YRS OLD WHEN HE PASSED AWAY OF OLD AGE. ALWAYS REMEMBERED AND ALWAYS LOVED
Hi, my name is Sheeba, i am a chow/akita mix, my mommy rescued me when my other owner left me cause she got evicted, so i was left without food, water and shelter, but i got out and was runing at large. One day i saw a young lady walkin towards me but i was scared so i kinda crept to the ground and ran a lil, but she was determined to get me, she showed me treats and i went towards her but when she went to pet me and grab me i ran off, she kept offering me treats and i really wanted them, but she kept trying to touch me and i didnt like that, so then she offered me treats and when i got closed she tacked me *ouchy*( it didnt really hurt but dont tell her that hehe), well she grabbed my collar and took me over to her house and showed me to her mommy and siblings, her mommy said ok, you can keep her, so she took me to the back yard and took off my collar cause it was so tight, she handed me a bowl of feed, i started gobling it down, but then she went to touch me again and i retracted, i think she realized that i had been abused and wasnt ready to trust humans. She started talking to me real nicely and i let her pet me a little. I sniffed around the yard and realized i was in a good place now. So i went up to her and she slowly put on her hand, and i let her pet me, then i gave her some puppy kisses. She then went inside and brang out this big black doggy who started to sniff me so i sniffed her, and then she wanted to play with me so we played for a while. Then she went outside and brought out this lil brown and black dog that looked like me, but with shorter darker hair. She sniffed me a lil but she was real happy to meet me, so we all started playing. Then she went outside and got this BIG brown doggy who started barking at me, but she told him it was ok, so he agreed to sniff and meet me, and once he saw i was ok, he played with me too. Well then she put me on a chain, and brang out this older black dog, she had her on a leash, she let the doggy get close enough to sniff but didnt let her get to close cause she was afraid she might not like me since she didnt like happy squirmy pups, but to her suprise she started wagging her tail and then i gave her some puppy kisses, so moomy let us both off our leashes, but this doggy was older and didnt want to play, so me and the other doggies played and she just sat with mommy and watched, the next day mommy took me to this vet place and they checked me out and said i was about 5 monts old. So mommy took me home and bought gave me these things called toys, she threw them but i got scared cause i thought she was gonna hit me with them, so she picked them all up and let me sniff them and play with them myself, she gave me a bath and i felt so much better. Then she tried to get me to play with theses toy things, but i didnt trust them. After a few weeks, i began to like my human family and trust them all. and after about a month i started to play with those toy thingys, now me and mommy play fetch with them and we go on long walks, i like to walk behind or right beside mommy though and she really likes that. I get sick and throw up in car rides, so my mommy just takes me on short ones so i can get use to them. Now i am 7 months old and a beautiful little girl at 48 lbs! my lil sis Keesha is still the small girl of the family. Mommy says i gots to get spayed real soon..wutever that is..but i love my family and shower them with lil puppy kisses all the time and i love ripping up toys. and my new mommy dont yell or hit me when i do puppy things like tear up toilet paper, bark or have a accident in the house. She just laughs and hugs me. see. mommy loves the pupp kisses i give her!
Hi, my name is punkin *giggle* (notice mommy likes my name so much she uses it). I am a gorgeous little jack russell terrier. I was found on the side of the road by a federal express driver, who pulled over because his mommy was a groomer. When he found me I had 4 broken ribs, and was so malnurished I had to have a feeding tube for 4 weeks before I could eat. Mike, the fed ex driver, couldn't keep me but his mommy agreed to keep me at her grooming place until they could find me a home, if I lived. Which the vet said I wouldn't. But you know us jack russell's we are very stubborn and don't do much of anything if it isn't our idea, and well dying wasn't mine!!!. After I left the hospital, Mike and his mom tried to find a home for me, alot of people came to look at me after they put an ad in the paper, but I was scared of all of them and they wanted a lap dog and well that's not a jackrussell! So one day Mike's mom called a lady who she said could find a home for a man eating shark if need be and a good one. The lady she called didn't know it yet but she was gonna be my new mommy. My mommy said let me come see what she looks like so I can see what I have to work with. 30 min later in came this really nice lady, with treats(yum yum yum) and she had a little boy with her, and I wasn't scared of them at all I went running right up to them and then found the pocket with treats *giggle* they took me home about 10 min later, and we have been happy every since. My new family dosen't yell at me for doing stuff like running off with the clean laundry when they are trying to fold it, or bringing them my soccer ball (which is still a little bigger than me but great to roll with) they just laugh, and my mommy found out I really like agility, so now I'm practicing and next year I get to, go to shows and show everybody how cute I am. It took alot of work, I was scared of everything so we went on long walks and mommy gave people treats to give to me so I wasn't scared of strangers anymore, she says it worked too well. she also says if she didn't have a sense of humor she would have sold me to the gypsies by now!!!! *giggle* So for everyone out there please think about us recycled dogs, we can be alot of work but, we give you alot more than what it takes mommy says I give her a headache*snicker* but she gives me kisses when she says it .
Hi, my name is Pheobe. I am a kitty and the first few months of my life were pretty rough ones. I was born outside and I don't know what happened to my mom. I had to hunt for food after mom left and it wasn't easy. One day I was chasing a mouse and I ran across a street and something big hit me. I woke up on the gravel side of the road and I hurt all over. The next thing I knew a nice lady picked me up so very carefully and put me in her car. She took me to this place that smelled funny, like a lot of animals all in one place. The people there were really nice too! They did strange things to me, stretched me out and took pictures of me, then they put me in this big metal thing with bars, I was scared, but then they gave me food and water and a box with stuff in it. I went to the potty in it, I hope that was ok. Everyone petted me and I felt much better, but I still hurt a lot. Then this lady that worked there came in a talked to me and picked me up and petted me, she was really nice, I could tell she liked me even more than the others. She carried me around all day and took real good care of me. Then they took another picture of me and everyone acted real sad. The lady that liked me best was really really sad and upset! I heard her say that they were going to put me to sleep, whatever that means. I could hear her and a man talking about me and she was crying, and she kept saying NO you can't do that. Anyway, the next thing I knew I was getting a bath and my ears cleaned and they poked me with something sharp and she gave me stuff in my mouth, I heard her say I had worms and fleas and ear mites. All I know is that I felt much better after the bath and stuff in my ears, no more itching whew! Then the really nice lady took me to her house, she had a room fixed just for me, cause I had to be in the metal thing with bars for a long time, until all my bones got better. The nice lady has a really nice dog too, her name is Sydney and she loves me too, she is a real nice dog (as dogs go), I like her too!! Well, I can hardly remember those bad days anymore. I have a wonderful home and my people really love me and I love them. I get the feeling that if it wasn't for this nice lady I wouldn't be telling this story now. I am a good cat, because I appreciate what these people did for me so much. If you want a nice animal that will love you unconditionally, just rescue one!!!
I have had dobes and mini dachshunds for about 20 years. I lost my first dachshund in Dec. of 1994, and her daughter in May of 1999and her sister in Feb of 2000. I have one left a males 15 years old. Well, a friend told me there was a dachshund at the local shelter, I couldn't stand it, I had to go see it. She was old, I figured over 14 years. She was curled up in a ball trying to keep warm on the cold, wet cement floor. She had no food or water, and no blanket to lay on. I went into the kennel to check her out. She was thin and a little dehydrated and so so sweet. She tried to follow me out of the kennel. The pound master would not give her to me, she was to be euthanized in two days. I did talk him into giving her a blanket, and I left crying. When I got home, I could not get her out of my head. I called the shelter and left a message not to euthanize her Monday morning, I will be there to pick her up. Which I did, that was the longest weekend I have ever spent. Monday morning I was at the shelter before they opened. Hoping that they would not put her down before they opened . They hadn't ! I took her immediately to my vet and had her checked out, heartworm test, fecal and blood work. She was good for her age. Her teeth were really bad though. About a month later, when she was in better shape I had her teeth cleaned. She was such a wonderful little dog. She followed me everywhere and was so happy all the time. Unfortunetly, I had to put her to sleep about 4 months after I rescued her. She had a tumor or something in the back of her throat that was bleeding terribly. At least the last few months of her life were warm, happy ones, with plenty of love , food and warmth. I miss her tremendously even though I only had her for a few short months. Her name was Peanut.

Hello!! My name is Mia and I am a 4 year old female Rottweiler. I live with my mom, dad and sister Hanna, who is a cat. And yeap, we even get along!!!! I was rescued 3 1/2 years ago from a vet clinic in Missouri (Ft Leonard Wood) where I was dumped and one day from being put down. I was 6 months old, abused, underweight, and very scared of all humans. My mom came the week prior and saw me, but was told I was suppossed to go to another lady. Well that lady never came to pick me up. Colleen, the vet tech was nice enough to let me live a little longer then what I was suppossed to. Then seven days later, my mom walked in again to look around. She saw me in my kennel and asked why I was still here. Colleen told her that the lady never came and she couldn't keep me around any longer. I guess no body wanted me cause I was a Rott. My mom looked at me and fell in love. Mind you I was a little pittiful looking and I had scars on my belly and a cigerette burn on my side, but she found it in her heart to give me a second chance in life and to know what unconditional love is. I have been by her side ever since.
Just thought you would like to know but we have a little puppy that was just rescued from the Reservation. She is just 3 months old and a darling. Right now she is in a foster home. She has mange and worms but as soon as she is healthy, She will be a delight. We are hoping to be able to find a home for her. soon.
The rescue of an animal is a special bond. You give of yourself but you receive so much more. I have 5 dogs which are all rescue pups. Sunny was a pound puppy who today is a Therapy Dog. He gives so much back to others. Shadow is also a pound puppy. She is a happy busy nuisence. Sadie is from the Alaskan Malamute Rescue and she is my Alpha girl. She also is the adoptive Mother for the remaining 2 dogs. Laddie came out of rabies quaranteen and was going to be put down when I said I would take him. For the past 11/2 years he has written a weekly column in the local paper about animals in the community. He is a celebrity. Goldie is the little rescue from the White Mountain Apache Reservation. Her story is unfolding now. You can also rescue different animals. We have a box turtle that is missing a leg and has a damaged shell and a mud turtle in foster. They are from the County Parks and Recreation. We have had them for 15 years so you might say they are part of our family. I would not choose any other animal other than a rescue. The eyes tell the story. They are "love in a fur?coat".
This looks almost like the kitten I rescued last december. Yes I know this is the dog pack but kittens and cats are alowwed in hear. She is now 6 months old and was found outside across my street in the cold snow almost blending in. She has been declawed and spayed along with all her shots and rabies. She is long hair and a sweetheart. I would not trade her in for anything. She thinks she is a dog at times. And knows when she wants attention and when to leave her alone.
