Q.
Would a bucket heater work as well as an inline heater for a portable? I do alot of older houses and don't want to blow any fuses. mj
A.
A bucket heater is rated at 1000 watts, while most inline heaters are rated at 2000 watts or more. Power consumption is a direct result of cleaning efficiency. The other problem with bucket heaters is that fact that all the pump manufactures state you will void the warrantee of the pump if the incoming water is hotter than 140 degrees F. A bucket heater can heat the water up to 170 degrees if you give it enough time. I don't know any carpet cleaners that test the water with a thermostat to make sure that the water is not hotter than 140 degrees F before they pour it into the cleaning unit. The other advantage is the high temperature limit with inline heaters. They can heat the water to 210 degrees F while the bucket heater is limited to 170 degrees F. A bucket heater cost around $40 so it is hard to compete with the price. A bucket heater only uses 9 amps of power so you can operate two heaters on one 20 amp breaker or one unit on a 15 amp breaker. We also sell 1750 watt inline heaters that will operate on a single 15 amp breaker if you are concerned about power consumption. Mytee also has two models of heaters available. One has dual 1000 watt elements and the other has four 600 watt elements. Both these units allow you to choose how much electricity you want to use. Another popular option is to purchase of the many 220 volt to 120 power converters that plug into the customers electric drier outlet. These are super handy because they can also operate a two corded extractor at the same time. Two cords for the machine and one cord for a 2000 watt heater is no problem. Donald
