Syrian Orthodox Culture in Malankara
The faith of the Syrian Orthodox Church in India is similar to that observed by the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. It includes faith in the Holy Trinity, in the incarnation of the Son of God, divine origin of traditions and in Holy Bible, in Nicene creed, in the seven sacraments, intercession of St.Mary and Saints, prayer for the dead, daily prayers, fasting, lent, Apostolic succession of St. Peter through the throne of Antioch. The church approved the first three ecumenial councils - Nicea, Constantinople and Ephesus. The Nicene Creed is the official creed of the church.The Filioque clause added by the Western Church to the creed is denied. St. Mary is revered as perpetual virgin and mother of God; and she is first among the saints. However the concept of Immaculate Conception for St. Mary is not accepted.
