RICHARD REGULARLY PLAYS FOOTBALL COMPETITIVELY AND AS A HOBBY AND HERE ARE HIS FAVOURITE FOOTBALLERS AND WHY!

VOLUME I
FAVOURITE FOOTY PLAYERS!!
DAVID BECKHAM
England, UK

Beckham has always been my sporting idol since he burst onto the scene when I was in my early teenage years! I think he has a lot of character! He never seems to let what people say bring him down and whenever someone criticises him, he always seems to prove them wrong! Ok, he has made mistakes in the past i.e. the red card in World Cup 1998 but look what he has done for England since!
I don't care what people say about him, in my personal opinion, in his generation of footballers, he is the best crosser of the ball, best free kick specialist and one of the best passers of the ball both long and short! He is not big headed about it, he just gets on with his football and puts in 100% every game! He is a true superstar in my eyes!

For me, Becks' is also an idol off the pitch! He doesn't make a fool of himself away from football! He is a very respectable person and never criticises other people! He knows how to look after himself and his family! He doesn't go partying all the time making a fool of himself, and as for those affair allogations, how do we know if they are true or not? So we should'nt make judgements on that.
He also has great fashion sense and has made a lot of money from other ways other than football, including modelling, fragrances and merchandise, not to mention all the endorsements! He is a very successful man, and he also gives a lot of money to charity!

CRISTIANO RONALDO
Portugal

Although CR7 can be a greedy player at times which surely frustrates his team-mates, for me, he is a joy to watch, and im sure many other fans would agree! He has great attacking flair, his trickery fools even the best of defenders and it is great to see such high tempo skillful football in the modern game! But most of all, he plays how I like to play - with plenty of pace and imagination - running at defenders!

I feel I have to add yet more comments for this guy! He is fast becoming my favourite player! I have to say, when CR7 first came on the scene at Man United I didn't like him because he was good but not English and he devastated England's defence in Euro 2004! However, since Euro 2004 CR7 has fast risen in my favourite books and is sure to rival Beckham as my favourite player!

Everytime I see CR7 play I get excited! He is the type of player fans want to watch! He has magical quick feet and loves to entertain he's the type of player I love to watch!

Since the World Cup - C.Ronaldo has really come of age, I think he has learned a lot since World Cup 2006 and he is performing amazingly well for Man United!! Ronaldo has always been one of the most skillful players with the ball since he burst onto the scene ith Sporting Lisbon but I think he now has an 'end product' to his game. He knows when to pass and he knows when to show boat and when not to, he is fast learning. Before Man United great George Best died, he predicted that C.Ronaldo would be the best player in the world by 4 years time, let's see if his prediction becomes true!!

GEORGE BEST
Northern Ireland, UK

Georgey Best never played top flight football in my lifetime, sadly he was a different generation but from the video footage I have seen of Best I am absolutely amazed at some of the attacking skills he produced playing in such muddy pitches, with the old fashioned heavy leather balls they used to play with and the old boots they wore back then! It's quite amazing! It is sad that he probably never reached his peak at top flight football due to his personal problems and retiring at such a young football age but while he did play, in his younger days he is arguably one of the best naturally gifted footballers the world has ever seen, certainly the best the British Isles has ever produced! Even Pele, the Brazilian legend most of the world regard as the best footballer ever said that George Best was his favourite player!
I have had great pleasure in watching the clips of his talent! The way he weaved in and out of defences with such ease and the way he made it look so attractive is wonderful to watch! If you get the chance to look on the 'George Best Page' website, it has footage of him in his glory days you should watch it! Watch it for me! Lol!

DIEGO MARADONA
Argentina

Of course, we all know who Maradona is in England, after what he did to us in World Cup '86 in Mexico! That famous 'HAND OF GOD' (see picture below) goal where he punched the ball into the goal past Peter Shilton! But remember that second goal he scored? Although I was only 2 when this happened, I have seen replays of the goal I don't know how many times! It has to be one of the greatest World Cup goals ever, if not, the best! He single handedly outclassed the whole England midfield and defence with a sizzling dribble, taking out four England defenders with extraordinary ball skills and finished it off by rounding goalkeeper Shilton and finishing! It was a truly legendary World Cup goal which knocked England out of the World Cup!

I often browse the internet searching for video footage of Maradona in action! I am amazed at some of the footage I have seen! One video, called 'Maradona vs Ronaldinho', the Brazilian trick wizard is one of the best football video compilations I've seen, it gave me so much joy to watch both of these stars entertaining fans and devastating defenders and goalkeepers with their flare, creativity, pace and skills! Diego Maradona is arguably one of the greatest footballers of all time and could surely rival Pele and Best for the title of the greatest ever footballer! I have seen international footage of Pele, and I must say, he looked a better player than both Maradona and Best, but I couldn't pick Pele as one of my favourites, as when I was growing up, it was Maradona who everybody was taking about and living in the United Kingdom, Best is a legend! Not only that, but I haven't seen much footage of Pele but from what I have seen of him he was 'out of this world'!

RYAN GIGGS
Wales, UK

Giggsy' is very much the type of player I enjoy both watching and emulating! He has plenty of pace and enjoys dribbling with the ball taking on defenders! As a young kid in primary school, the two players I always looked up to most and enjoyed watching were the 'Welsh wizzard' Ryan Giggs and Brazilian striker Romario (which is where my football nickname 'Joycinho' came from, I used to wear a Brazil shirt with Romario on the back when I played football as a little lad), and Giggs was definatly my idol as a junior before David Beckham came along! Eric Cantona, the French legend was also a favourite of mine at that time with his attacking flare and inspirational plays! Ryan Giggs will always be a Football legend in my books, and along with George Best, he must be one of the best players the British Isle has produced and certainly one of the few great players never to play in a World Cup, likewise George Best!

WAYNE ROONEY
England, UK

Wayne Rooney is only very young but he seems to have matured dramitaclly in the way he plays! He seems to have it all! He has stregnth, determination, aggression, pace, powerful acceleration, outstanding positional play, trickery to fool opponents and most of all has a deadly right foot scoring spectacular goals! He delights the fans, which is why he delights me when I see him playing on television! He has already been likened to British footballing legends such as George Best and Paul Gascoigne! He is the key to England's success in the future and I hope that he continues to develope at the rate he currently is to become one of the best footballers in the world! I get excited to watch him play! He is a joy to watch and is feared by defences all over the world!

ZINEDINE ZIDANE
France

ZZ is an absolute footballing legend in my opinion! I love watching Zidane play! He is the complete player in my eyes! He isn't just a show pony who can please the crowd with emaculate ball skills and trickery but he has a spectacularly accurate and powerful shot, he is two footed, he has extraordinary passing range accuracy, who could without a doubt challenge David Beckham's long range passing ability! He is strong in the air and can defend! His ball control is outrageous, it is a joy to watch!
Zidane doesn't have to worry about when to showboat and when not to, it is a part of his game and he is such a natural ball player that he makes the flashy ball skills look so easy like its an ordinary thing to do! He is nearing the end of his career now but I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Algerian born French international! In my opinion he is one of the greatest players of all time, I'm sure some will agree, but from what I have seen of Zizou' and what I have seen from other supposedly 'great' world players, Zidane is within that bracket!

Despite his World Cup 2006 final shame - his 'provocked' headbut on Materazzi - he's still a living footballing LEGEND!!
