When she was told by the Angel Gabriel that her aged cousin Elizabeth would soon have a son, Mary rose up and went with haste into the mountainous region to visit Elizabeth.
The moment she entered the house and greeted her cousin, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost; and her unborn babe, St. John the Baptist, was cleansed of original sin and sanctified. Her babe leaped in the womb.
Elizabeth cried out,
"Blessed are you for your believing," the message that was brought to you from the Lord shall have fulfillment" "
And Mary said,
"My soul magnifies the Lord," my spirit has found joy in God, who is my Savior,' because He has looked graciously upon the lowliness of His handmaid. Henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed. "
Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months, serving her aged cousin like a humble maid. Consider the love of her neighbor that makes Our Lady share with others the great blessings she herself has received. We also should try to be helpful, showing our companions that we carry Jesus in our hearts.
Mary heeds no difficulty in her labor of love.
When we see so many around us ignoring God or living in sin, we should forego our own comfort to perform some humble work for the spiritual advantage of our neighbor.
God's glory demands sacrifices from us.
