Dr. Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, a woman noted for her battle with discrimination in the workplace, was recognized by city leaders during the mayor and City Council meeting Monday as part of Black History Month.
Coleman-Adebayo won a historic lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency in 2000 on the basis of race, gender, color discrimination and a hostile work environment.
The victory led to the creation of the Notification of Federal Employees Anti-discrimination and Retaliation Act, or No FEAR Act. The introduction of the No FEAR II Act is expected during this Congressional session.
Coleman-Adebayo said she accepted the honor on behalf of the thousands of government employees that continue to suffer discrimination in the workplace.
An exhibit featuring Coleman-Adebayo’s is on display throughout February at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Ave.
