 The Malabar Mariners Association

(MMA) is an organization whose prime aim is to stimulate the art of navigation and sailing. Established over 23 years ago, MMA  is an incorporated not-for-profit organization.
Located in the town of Malabar, whose seal is of a sailboat, the association promotes sailing as an environmentally friendly recreation for the enjoyment of the Indian River Lagoon.

Over the years, the Malabar Mariners Association has developed strategies to safely navigate this unique area of the Intracoastal Waterway system. Although most of the members’ boats are less than 30 feet long, our flotillas have traveled to the Bahamas, Dry Tortugas, and beyond. Yearly activities include the Memorial weekend rendezvous  sleep-over, the macho-run sail, the park-lark sail, and the anything goes race. In addition to the social aspects of the organization,  the MMA has always taken part in environmental clean-ups as well as maintaining its facilities and riverfront properties. MMA has sponsored Classes in various aspects of navigation,  safe seamanship,  as well as youth and adult  sailing programs.

American Sailing Association classes have been offered, certifying members and non-members in basic sailing and basic bare-boat charter.
Many members have achieved Captains licenses, some earn a living from the sea. This is a hands on organization. Membership application requires two sponsors as well as participation in work parties and meetings.

Quarterly meetings take place at the

Malabar Town Hall (321-727-7764)

and are open to the public.
