                                    Summary of Madison's Eye Problems

March 2000            Madison’s left eye seemed smaller than the right. Was a little irritated.

Took her to see her Pediatrician.  She examined Madison and found a sty under the lower lid.  Felt it was  allergy related and prescribed a cream and Benadryl. That seemed to help for a while.

May 2000            Decided to take Madison to see the Optometrist.  Madison had complained that she was getting a headache while reading.  He examined her and prescribed reading glasses for close work.  Said that it was normal for kids her age to need reading glasses.

October 2000            Noticed that the left eye was drooping more.  Returned to her Pediatrician.  She decided that Madison should be seen by an Ophthalmologist to get a better idea of what was going on.

We were referred to Dr. Schneider at the local 'Eye Institute'.

October 2000             Madison had an eye exam and the Doctor did a thorough exam of the eye itself.  He found that there was lump under the upper eyelid and referred us to his colleague Dr. Goldberger for a consultation.

November 2000            Met with Dr. Goldberger.  He examined the eye and felt the lump.  He requested an MRI of the orbits to find out what exactly we were dealing with.

November 2000            Had MRI done at the local Community Hospital

November 2000            Returned to Dr. Goldberger to discuss MRI results.

Surgery was determined to be necessary to remove the tumor found in the left orbit.  Dr. Goldberger did not feel at that time that it was an emergency and decided it could wait until the first of the year.

January 2001            Madison went to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to have the tumor removed.  Surgery went well and she came through with terrific results.  Healing began immediately and the eye popped back into place.

January 2001            Returned to Dr. Goldberger for a follow up check of the eye.  Healing was almost complete and we were very pleased with the results.   Dr. Goldberger informed me that the pathology report found Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma and referred us to Loma Linda Pediatric Oncology for further tests.
