alverno2@attbi.comInformation: I was there from july 65 til jul 67 and had the misfortune of being on duty in the tunnel during the fire. Spent a couple days at Zama hospital for smoke inhalation but was otherwise ok. My name is Al Kraatz or “Red and I was CTR3 & CTR2 during my time there. Played a lot of golf at Atsugi NAS and attended a few of those famous Chinatown parties. Drove a 1958 toyopet 4dr with those little arms that came out from the door posts when you put the turn signal on. Bought it from a guy who left soon after I got there for $5 and sold it to a buddy when I left for $5 dollars. Only had to put in a master cylinder(20.00 parts and labor) during the almost 2 years I drove it. Lived off base in a small apartment in Yamato. All in all a great duty station. Nice website you’ve created.

Dates at Kami: 1965 - 1968
Information: I was a Green House Regular after the Eves. My not so noteworthy claim to fame was the wrecking of my 1959 Brown Chevy late in 1967. It was placed in front of the Exchange in Yokohama with the sign " Do you want this to be your Christmas present". I stood in front of it on crutches listening to some of the comments about it. I spent 45 days in the hospital in Yokosuka in the wing with the wounded from the Vietnam War. It was an eye opener. Regards, Bill Snyder
