Name: Jim Murray Rates/Ranks at Kami: CTASN-CTA2 Dates at Kami: Dec 61- Sep 64 Contact address: 800 Shadow Lake Lane, Naples, FL 34108 Information: Started in Ops Admin in the "Old" Building, moved to Ops mailroom when the "New" building was built at the end of the tunnel. Name: Tony Russo Rate/Rank at Kami: IS2 Dates at Kami: Jan82-August85 E-mail address: trusso@patriot-it.com Contact address: 4105 Bennington PL W Jefferson, MD 21755 Information: I am a retired service connected disabled veteran. I was stationed at the little two-man command known as CTU168.1.1 right across the hall from FOSIF behind a door that everyone thought was a broom closet! Kami was a magical place in my life and I am looking forward to catching up with some Old friends from “back in the day”. -Tony Name: Maynard A Shigley (nickname “Shig”) Rate/Ranks at Kami: -CTM3 Dates at Kami: Kamiseya Dec 1963 – May 1966 E-mail: Maynard@sunairsecurity.com (Owner Sunair Security Services, Inc.) Information: I was working mid shift the night of the fire doing maintenance in the tunnel. Would like to find more people who were there during the fire and might remember seeing me. I need to find the person who went upstairs with me on the hose. He drug a victim from across the hall from the photo lab downstairs. When those two exited the building, firemen apparently thought that was the two that went up with the hose and shut off the water supply to my hose. I was unable to reach a person lying at the end of the hall by the “fire exit door” as the floor I was laying on was so hot, so I followed the hose back to the stairway. Last thing I remember was jumping down a burning stairway to the landing. Someone made one more pass into the building and pulled me out from wherever I passed out. Would like to know who! I spent some time at Camp Zama Hospital. I had 3 motorcycles (Honda 125, Honda 55 & Honda 50) and a British Ford Zephyr with right hand drive. I went to Japanese language class in Yokohama with Carl Mertz (CTM1), would like to find him. I took up professional roller skating at the Yokosuka base under the guidance of Terry Neeley who worked at the tunnel as a CT2. My brother, David Shigley was stationed on the LST USS Windham County out of Yokuska while I was in Japan. Spent most of my off duty time flying at Kanto Command Aero Club at Chofu, Japan. I now have a commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine, Sea Plane, and Helicopter Ratings. 2 children adopted from Vietnam and Philippines, Wayne, 32 & Brandi, 30. Wife – Vicki (Taff) Shigley daughter of the former CTC Cecil Taff. Married in Bethesda MD, 1968, still very happily married! Moved to Colorado 1968 and been here ever since! Vicki and I attended the 40 year Reunion/Memorial Service of the Kamiseya Fire held in Pensacola September 22-23 2005. I wasn’t able to unblock the tragedy from my mind and come up with any names in attendance that I could recognize from my days in Kamiseya. Lt Ernest Moody’s wife, son, daughter, and two grandchildren were at the reunion and memorial service, they have a strong resemblance to him.
Name: David White Rates/Ranks at Kami: ISSN-IS2 Dates at Kami: Jul 82- Mar 86 E-mail address: dmwjax@hotmail.com Information: OMG does this bring back memories...some of the best times of my life. Arrived at FOSIF as an ISSN and worked in the admin office while awaiting my clearance (with YN1 Little and YNC Nolasco). Then went onto the watchfloor as a surface analyst and made lots of great friends. Although the 2-2-2-80 was a strain sometimes, the 80 off was plenty of time to explore the country....try the food, see the sights, etc. My first son was born at the Yokosuka Hospital. Started off living off base and then we moved on after a housing spot opened up. I ended up being selected for the ECP program, finished my degree at South Carolina and spent the next five years as a surface warfare officer (the program prevented me from going directly into intel) before getting out. Really wish I had stayed in and converted to Intel !!
