Greetings; I worked in the tunnel on Section Three from spring of 1957 till Nov. 1959 came on board CTSN left in 1959 as CT2.  As I recall the bar most often visited by Section Three was (cant remember for the life of me) not the China. Was the Mitsubishi Club an upbeat blues bar on Isuzaci-chow? Where the better retail stores and the USO were located? Also there was a 24 hour-a-day bar near there that was supposed to be notorious. Section Three's bar was small and on the opposite side of street than the Marco Polo and down or up the street a ways. Had a small stroke and memory not too good but remember a few names. K P and K G Williams-Dinky Davis-Red McKinze (could draw science fiction characters one after another and this was in 1957) Worked to the left in tunnel almost to end, had a small group of Marines in our duty section but they bunked in another barracks. Remember the payday poker game that lasted two days most times. Remember base being shut down on day the (Monopoly) money was changed. Would have been a lifer if they had left me a Kamiseya. Vern Wilkinson in Fennimore Wi.

Information:
Worked in FOSIF's admin office, along with YNC Tom Nolasco and YN3 . . . what was her name? I remember, but can't spell it.  Was a new experience for me as a fleet YN to work at a SCIF.  I remember having my brown badge so long I had one with my photo on it.  People would get tired of having to let me on to the watch floor to make copies or deliver messages, so they told me the codes to the cipher locks.  I'd go over to use the copier just off the watch floor and some Chief would come over, look me up and down with a disgusted look on his face, and pull the curtain closed.  So much compassion! Hey, does anyone remember the RWB Stoddard memorial CRB library? I left the Navy in 83, and nine years later joined the Reserve as an IS.  Now I'm back on active duty as a Reserve recruiter.  Got lucky and was offered a four-year tour at Atsugi as a pre-sep counselor.  NRRF Kami is all but closed, and the last command moved out of the tunnel in 2003.  I went over to look around the spaces.  Wasn't much left, 'cept the big map on the wall of the watch floor.  Kinda sad.

Information: I came to Japan in 1980 to work for ARFCOS Atsugi.  Loved Japan so much, I used a Guard III to move over to Kami in 1982.  Loved living off base, and the night runs to certain trash areas to see if there was anything good that was thrown out - like refrigerators, and washers.  I met some of the craziest people there, wished I had kept in better contact with them!  Fond memories of Chief Freely, S.Chief Kuhn, Lt Mitchell, Karma Sees, Papa John and the DIRSUPpers, along with others.
Name: Joseph Lawlor (Strawberry)
Rate/Rank at Kami:  CTRSN
Dates at Kami: Was TAD to Kami Seya from early Jan 1971 until April 1971
E-mail Address:

Information: Absolutely the best duty station in the world.  I was one of the people who came up from Guam to learn Rat Shit and then take it back with us.  I worked
in The Tunnel where nightly Pit Contests kept us laughing.  What else can be
said about Chinatown.  The IG, the Club Superman, et al.  I worked with a
lot of Marines and partied with them.  Now I enjoy Big Ten (Iowa Hawkeyes of course) anything, reading, cooking, hunting, fishing and emailing old friends.  I work as a Child Abuse Investigator (Child Protective Worker) for the State of Iowa.  I would love to hear from anyone who was there when I was, or from anyone else who just wants to trade lies.

I spend my time in both Laurel and Frederick, Maryland. I retired four years ago from the Postal Service. Liked everything about being at Kami especially Chinatown, the Cho, beer ballgames, Sayonara Parties, good buddies, and the generosity of my Japanese friends. I grew up there and am forever thankful for that.
Name: Doug Noble
Rate/Rank at Kami: AG2
Dates at Kami: September 1964-August 1966
E-mail Address: rdvideo1@aol.com
Contact Address: Damascus, Md. 20872
Information: I was one of those weather guessers in the back room.  Chief Franco gave away my bride who flew in from Washington, D.C. and we were married at the base chapel in Nov. 64.  The reception was at the home of AG1 Graves if I remember right (old age is creeping in). I'll attach a photo that was taken by the Navy photog.  We lived off base in Chuo Rinken and I commuted to work with Marine Sgt. Roger Bray.  I was off duty at the time of the fire but came in that morning to pick up my pay check and was greeted at the main gate by many reporters trying to get in to the consternation of the Marine guards.  We lost some great guys that day. I'll never forget them.
The web site is a great idea. I've often wondered what became of everyone. The time we spent in Japan was great. I couldn't have asked for better neighbors in the Japanese.  Also, some of the Karate classes where I lost my wedding ring (never have lived that one down.) Remember one of the Admiral's personal inspections when my Datsun's battery was dead and I had to start it with the hand crank (remember those based on the English Austin Healys). I just made the inspection with minutes to spare.

Information: I worked at the White plant and this was quite a change from being with the fleet. The place was nothing but a party except for having to explain to the CT's on a weekly basis how to operate the incinerator, I could never figure out why they could operate a computer but couldn't open 3 valves and push a button in that order.
Name:  Andy Binder
Rate/Rank at Kami:  CTA3 - Captain's Writer

Information:  Left Japan for NSGA Kunia, Hawaii where I stayed until 1999 when I separated.  Joined the reserves on August 27, 2001, a few weeks later the towers fell and I recalled into a MIUWU (Mobile Inshore Underseas Warfare Unit 202) out of Rhode Island.  They sent me to the Port Security War College in Virginia and sent me to the Med for a year.  When I returned in late 2002 I was picked up for the police academy and worked as a police officer in the Town of Fuquay-Varina.  I am still married to Diana and we have two wonderful boys, 7 and 1.  Earlier this year (2005) we moved to Wentzville, MO where I continue my work in Law Enforcement.  Diana works for Xpedious Communications as a network engineer, life is good.  If you know me, drop me a line.

Information:  I came to Kami from CTR school in Pensacola as a SN and made CTR3 while at Kami.  I arrived in Sept. 1964 and left May 20, 1967.  Several guys from my class came to Kami at the same time.  I was TAD to Guam for the month of Dec 1965.  I was in Sec. 211.  I started off with Chief Kilebrew, but was transferred to another watch group (3 or 4) & Jim Forbes CTR1 was my super, I think he received orders for the USS Oxford.  I then had a Chief (do not remember his name) & his assistant was Jack Bergert CTR1.  Jack use to go on EC121 flights & I have often wondered if he was on the one shot down.  I think the Chief received orders to the USS Georgetown, as did a friend of mine
from Kami, Ron Spaulding CTR3.  The last 6 months, I worked days as Technical Support
P.O. for Sec. 211.  Of course, I was there during the fire.  My watch group was due to go on eves (we stood eve, day, mid) the day of the fire.  Our barracks wing was awakend by one of the guys running thru and yelling,  "the tunnel's on fire..."  We thought he was joking, but unfortunately it was true.  That morning a new CTRC, Scarlett, held muster behind our barracks. Most of the guys who died were R branchers.  I did not know any very well. We did go on watch that eve, but we took our R390-s by bus to the NSA site at Fuchinobe.  It was strange, seeing the NSA employees in ties doing the same job we did.  When we did get back to the Tunnel, we had to work without air conditioning for a while during the rebuilding.  Also, we had the Far East Net Work at full blast over speakers, as the workers were just next door.
