I left as CTO3 and was tech control supervisor. I remember trips to Fuji, Hakone, Nikko, and a car trip to Kyoto. There were some old mates that I never saw since. Gary Arnold and Ed Carpenter were later stationed in Seattle, but I lost touch with them. Don Gentry was a short-timer at the time and I think has returned to Indianapolis. Other memories were the Starlight on D Ave., Chinatown, and the Charcoal Haven. That was a fine 21 months of my life. After leaving Kamiseya, went on a 12 month tropical sea cruise aboard the USS Banner. That cruise greatly helped influence my decision to get out after 4 years. Presently retired and living in the Phoenix, AZ area. Would welcome hearing from anyone from that era or watch section. Started as the ripper (who didn't?) and ended sitting right across from the chief on the main rat "poop" posit. I copied the Pueblo's capture that fateful midwatch shortly before I got my orders of separation (FIGMO, remember the countdown ). I still remember all the details vividly. Sure would like to hear from some of my compatriots from those days,send an e-mail and see if we can relive the fun times. Name: J. T. Shaw ("The Great Watchstander", "Wimpy", hell, I'd answer to anything) Rank at Kami: CTOSN, CTO3, CTO2 Dates: Aug 67 to Aug 69 ("Section 4" as I remember) Informat ion: I remember the burn-bag./coffee brewing/deck swabbing details...getting "tagged" by our Grunt Section co-workers during promo time (gawd, that hurt!!!)...and the "Up all Day Drinkin' After the Last All-Night Watch Roach Parties" in Yoko...I luv'd "2-2-80" work weeks...learned to drink (not well, but often, still tryin' to learn)...went to COMSECONDFLT in Norfolk...got out in '69 and ended up retirin' from "Verizon" this past November...along with 21,000 of my closest friends...it was great bein' in Kami...young, stupid and adventuresome...I still recall the code word classifications...and I remember when the Israelis shot up our Liberty Ship...and when the Commies grabbed the boat. and when they shot down the EC-121....May God grant those we lost peace...and may the Commies live in Interesting Times....Thanks for the memories....J.T.S. Was a Marine Guard at Kami. Like to hear from any Marines or Navy personnel that were there in 79-80. Do keep in contact with two Marine buddies. Divorced, one son. Getting married in the near future. In the security business, now starting company to contract with the U.S. Government to send security contractors overseas. More to follow
