CAUTION: Since I am new at the Elkins Family research don't take all this information as gospel. I am trying to create a place where you may contact me and say "Janet you are wrong, correct your information".  That way we can build a good history.
 
                                  ELKINS FAMILY
 
The Elkins Family was among the first families to come and settle on Hewetts Creek. They probably descend from Richard Elkins Sr. of Montgomery Co. Va who had several children including Richard Jr., William and Zachariah Elkins.
 
William and Zachariah Elkins came to Hewett Creek as early as 1803 or before. The 1803 date is established by Land Ownership near the mouth of Meadow Fork in that year.
 
I attempt to mention only part of the Elkins Family Here and leave it to someone else to write the family history.
 
1     ZACHARIAH/ZACHEUS ELKINS born about 1764 married Rachel who may have been a Smith. He lived in the Montgomery, Wythe, Tazewell Counties of Virginia before coming to Hewett Creek which was part of Kanawha Co. VA in 1803, Cabell Co in 1809, Logan Co. in 1824 and Boone County in 1847 becoming West Virginia in 1863. He was living with his grandson Zacheus Elkins Jr. in 1850 age 86 years.
 
     1 1    Joseph Elkins who died during the War of 1812 married Elizabeth McNeely. Before his death he ask his friend Joseph Workman to take care of his family. Joseph Workman came home from the War married the widow Elizabeth McNeely Elkins and they raised the large Workman Family at Pond Fork. Joseph and Elizabeth McNeely Elkins had two children:
 
          1 11    Zacheus Elkins Jr b. 1810 who married Lucretia Walls daughter of Jacob and Mary Walls. He was named for his grandfather Zacheus/Zachariah Elkins above. He died before 1870. Children were:

                    1112    John E. Elkins b. 1834 m. Frances Neece
                    1113    Lurana Elkins b. 1836 d. 3 July 1853

                                   Phillip Epling.
                    1116      Venila Elkins b. 1842 m. Wilson McNeely m.
                                     2nd Henry Cook
                     1117      Martha Elkins b. 1844 m. William Hansford
                                    Cook. She died 13 April 1879
                      1118     Mary Yantes b. 1849 m. Anderson Miller.
                      1119     James H. P. Elkins b. 1852 m. Elizabeth
                                     Cook. 2nd Louisa J. Workman
                      1119A  Joseph L. S. Elkins b. 1854 m. Martha
                                    Ferrell.
 
 
          11 2     Celia Elkins b. 18__, no other record.
 
2     William Elkins born about 1767 married Ann Smith. He came to Hewett with his brother Zacheus.
 
     21     Lavina Elkins married James son of Richard Elkins. He died before 1850. She died after 1870. Among their children were:
 
          211     Robert Elkins b. about 1822 who married Lurania dau of Greenville and Ann Nelson.

Robert and Lurana Nelson Elkins are already married when the 1850 Boone County Census Was taken. Both were 28 years old and one child was living in the household. Spicy McNeely age 6. Children of Robert and Lurana Elkins were:

           227    Zilpha Elkins b. 1834 m. Eliphus Spurlock
           228   Patterson Elkins b. 1835
 
3    Richard Elkins Jr. born about 1770 married 2 Dec 1787 in Montgomery Co. VA, Nancy Lesley McGuire a widow with at least one daughter Rebecca McGuire. He settled in what is now Logan Co. WV. He had at least 12 children, I will mention only two.
 
     31     James Elkins who married Lavina Elkins dau of William Elkins. He lived on Hewetts Creek and died before 1850. See their Children above.
 
      32     Martha Elkins born about 1801, m. Elijah Elkins son of William Elkins. See their children above.
