Cinderella

Selected DVD and video jacket designs from around the world.

NOTE: There are still several more Cinderella DVDs with variant packaging that I am trying to get. Will post covers when acquired... if acquired.

The official Region 3 release from South Korea. An absolutely gorgeous release. Die cut slipcase with mother-of-pearl title lettering. The DVD clamshell is duel sided so you can see (through the die cut mirror slipcase) either a portrait shot of the mother and daughter, or (as shown) the mother cutting into her daughter's forehead. And when the clamshell is removed, there is a great shot of the daughter on the inside back panel of the slipcase. Single disc - movie and all the extras.

The official Korean VCD release.

The official USA release from Tartan Asia Extreme.

(Below) The official Region 3 Thailand DVD release January 2008. The top-loading slipcase and jewel case sleeve artwork are identical. The cover features the standard artwork, while the back offers a nice enlarged use of the portrait version of the poster. Subs in Thai and English.

(Below) The official Region 3 Thailand VCD release January 2008. The side-loading color slipcase contains the two VCDs inside a VCD black clamshell - no artwork. The movie is in Thai language only - no subs.

(Below) PohKim in Singapore released a DVD and VCD for Cinderella with no bells or whistles at all. This DVD comes with a glossy, top-loading slipcase and DVD in a plain  clamshell with no sleeve (NOTE: the actual clamshell is black, I have substituted it for aesthetic purposes)

The PohKim matching VCD is oddly constructed, with the two VCDs coming in an extra thick jewel case for no reason. The jewel case could accommodate four discs and a booklet, but comes only with the two VCDs... and that's it. The artwork used for the slipcases of the VCD and DVD are identical.

PMP Entertainment in Malaysia did a far superior job on both their VCD and DVD releases.

The two-disc VCD release comes in a stunning slipcase cover that features a never before seen alternate - gore - version of the standard poster artwork. And the inside clamshell boasts a different sleeve design. The sleeve is actually double-sided, so when you open the clear plastic clamshell, you get a great shot of the bloodied girl's face on the operating table (not shown).

The PMP DVD release is second only to the South Korean release in terms of packaging. No expense was spared. The DVD comes in a beautiful gatefold digipack with superb artwork back, front, and inside. The whole unit then fits into a thick protective clear plastic slipcase.

The Black Market Versions

The Chinese release from Bitwin. Has a nice gatefold slipcase (first scan - outside back and front) that has glossy embossed lettering for the logo. Second scan is the opened gatefold showing inside panels.

(below) Another Chinese release. Gatefold slipcase (scan one shows outside back and front covers) with nice poster reproduction artwork. The purple Cinderella logo is raised, and although you can't see it in the scan, the woman's hand and the girl's face have been printed in a high gloss shine, making them really standout. Second scan shows inside panels.

(below) Yet another Chinese version, this time copied after the one-disc Korean DVD -  notice the Chinese writing on the jacket beside the Korean title. This one comes with a nice gatefold slipcase (scan one shows outside front and back covers). The inside of the gatefold cover (scan two) features a nice portrait .

(below) Chinese variant release #1 - gatefold slipcase. This release comes with a standard color paper sleeve. Notice the white credit/info spec panel on back cover. This has been added (as in printed over and hiding the UPC symbol) to the original design as seen in variant #2 below. A bootleg of a bootleg??

Chinese variant release #2 - top loading slipcase.  Sold with detachable cardboard clamshell sleeve (same as cover). Clamshell not included.

(below) This attractive variation is easily spotted by its mustard-colored spine and attractive back cover. Gatefold slipcase with matching insert jewel case sleeve.

(below) This Chinese black market release is from Shanghai. Thanks to Jia Shan for finding it for me. This release comes with a gatefold slipcase, the cover design featuring one of the original Korean movie posters for the film. The inside clamshell features identical back and front art work. The logos on the back and front of the slipcase are glossy and embossed.

NEW FIND !! (below) This release has a cover similar to the one above, but with a logo and all cover lettering printed in silver mylar - obscured by scanning. With this edition, the back of the jewel case sleeve (not shown) has a different back that the gatefold case.

An extra special thank you to my Chinese friend in China who helped me procur this off a Chinese auction site. This very rare gatefold slipcase version comes with a glossy front cover photo with the Cinderella logo slightly raised. The clamshell sleeve is identical.

A Chinese/Malaysian release under the name GHOST CINDERELLA.

A DVD-9 Chinese release under the name GHOST CINDERELLA.

Another DVD9 Chinese release. Notice the back of the sleeve and the small red dots on the actresses shoulders. This photo has been lifted from the interactive Korean website for the film. On the website, those dots represent "click here". Funny!

(below) A million thanks to Jessica in Singapore for helping me to get this very rare Chinese black market DVD 9 release that I had on my want list for six months. Funny enough, while the synopsis is correct, the run time, languages, region code and everything else list on the back of the  jacket has been lifted from some other DVD.

(below) And finally, a real shocker. This over-sized DVD slipcase (back and front shown in scans) boasts a nice Cinderella back and front and comes with two DVD-18 discs. One would think that you get the movie Cinderella on the first disc and (as advertised in Chinese on the back) a whooping 10 Korean horrors on the second disc. Nope.

On the 10-movie DVD you get a Peter Greenaway film, Wes Craven's Last House on the Left in German and eight Japanese movies of which I have never heard of. On the second disc you get two Hong Kong films and Thai movie. NO Cinderella - anywhere. And the quality of everything is lover than VCD. Nice packaging though. Only in China.
