ST. BARTHOLOMEW-HOLY FAMILY-ST JOSEPH-MOTHER OF GOD SCHOOL CLASS REUNIONS
Sunday May 1, 2005
MASS AT 1:00 PM AT QUEEN OF PEACH CHURCH 910 14TH ST. NORTH CHICAGO
Receptions 2P-5P at each of the four school buildings
As most of you know we’ve been gathering names for over a year, promising a reunion. Now those plans have been formalized and we’re ready to bring everyone together in their respective alma maters one more time.
Bring your memories. Renew old friendships. Chat with former teachers. Revisit the rooms where you spent so many hours, some happy, some painful, but all a part of who you are today. It may be the last chance to gather in these historic places because current plans are for Lake Shore Catholic Academy, which grew out of our four schools, to merge with Immaculate Conception School and at least some of the new buildings may be closed.
(St. Bart’s alumni: Although the school is now The Center) a PADS site and soup kitchen, the building will be open for us that day and we will be welcomed to gather in the basement lunch room and tour the upstairs.)
Part of our campaign to gather names has also been to help further Catholic education in this area. There was always a camaraderie, a strong bond, a stubborn pride that identified the people who grew up on the South Side of Waukegan and in North Chicago where the tradition of Catholic education was deeply rooted. We want that tradition and the pride it fosters in the children of these neighborhoods to continue. However, at this time the exact nature of the school is in transition and plans for a new building are in limbo. If and when they materialize, we do not want the names of the schools that were its foundation — our schools — to be forgotten. It has been suggested that money might be raised to furnish classrooms, which would then be designated with plaques identifying them as St Bartholomew, Holy Family, St. Joseph, and Mother of God. Another suggestion has been for an endowment, which would be used to keep tuition lower. This is all in the future. In the meantime, keep the children of Lake Shore Catholic Academy and their teachers in your prayers.
