Homeschool Links

One of my favorite homeschool sites is Jody's Home-Made Living. Jody is a mom who lives on a ranch in Montana and homeschools her five children using the Charlotte Mason method.  She has a beautiful website full of interesting reading and a great messageboard where you can visit with other moms.

"Popcorn and Peanuts" is a  great site to visit to find out more about the Charlotte Mason Method!  You will find guidance on teaching any subject using this method, including a section on teaching a special needs child.

Teach-at-Home has 135 articles on homeschooling.  A great place to learn more about homeschooling.

Debbie's Country has tons of links to lots of different homeschooling sites.  You could spend days browing through her website!

Click here to find the website of one of your child's favorite authors!  Read their biography, and check out the fun activities!

If you want more of a textbook approach and the option to mail your work in for grading and recordkeeping you might like CLA.  They are inexpensive yet thorough.  You also have the option of just buying books through them and doing your own thing after that. I found their Lang. Arts to be a bit overwhelming, but as you gain experience you can substitute other materials.

Unschooling

Heather's Homeschool Page will give you a good look into unschooling.  Heather takes you through how she handles certain subjects and her philosophy of education.

At unschooling.com you can join a discussion forum (messageboard) about unschooling with other moms.

Susan L. has given us a fascinating glimpse into her homeschooling/unschooling methods.  These pages were posted on Jody's Home-Made Living messageboard in answer to many questions.

The Elijah Company catalog is one of my favorite sources of homeschooling materials.  Their website includes articles on homeschooling, curriculum materials to order and a very active discussion board where you can get your questions answered.

Greenleaf Press is another favorite place for ordering materials, especially history curriculum. Their website shows all of the materials available in the hard copy of the catalog.  The catalog may be handier to use than the site, and you can order a catalog on the homepage.

Beginning Hebrew-Lorraine posted this information (on the WWOLtzing for Jesus site) she had found when searching for materials to use with her own children.  She found a lot!

Hippo Campus is a very helpful site with free online classes in video and textbook versions.  Note: it is a secular site, but has some useful resources.  A parent will want to preview material.

Need help with homework?  Usborne has a page full of links to help you!

Kid friendly search engines can also aid your student in finding needed information.

Mentoring My Own is an article about mom teaching by her example.  What are you doing for your own personal growth?  Remember, your children are watching!

Read an inspirational article about "The Life of a Homeschool Mom"!

A Mom's Compendium of Advice is a letter from a mom to her college-bound daughter reminding her to remember the important things in life. A wonderful reminder for all of us!

Need some music and art ideas?  You can find some here!

HSLDA's website has lots of good legal advice and this particular link takes you to a page for beginning homeschoolers, to answer some important questions they may have. If you live in an uncooperative school district and worry about prosecution, it may give you some peace of mind to become a member of HSLDA.  For only $100 per year for the whole family any court costs are covered.  But don't take MY word for it.  Check out their website!
