To get you started, listed below are some of the definitions you may find useful and some of the methods/solutions others have tried. There are more, this is just to get you started.

GENERAL DEFINITIONS: (more definitions here)
Primary Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating without a known cause.
Secondary Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating caused by an underlying condition such as endocrine disorders.
Palmer Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating on the palms of the hands.
Cranio/Facial Hyperhidrosis: Excessive sweating of the face and/or scalp. Severe facial blushing may also be present.
Plantar/Pedal Hyperhidrosis: Occurring on the soles of the feet.
Axillary Hyperhidrosis: Occurring in the armpits.
Truncal Hyperhidrosis: Sweating of the trunk and/or thigh area.
TREATMENTS:
Topical-AntiPerspirants are the simplest treatment and usually the first most effective ingredient is aluminum chloride. Often works best for light to moderate hyperhidrosis.
-Over-the-counter products include Mitchum's, 5-Day, Certain-Dri
-By prescription in US are Drysol and Xerac (works for milder cases)
-Available Over Internet are Maxim, Odaban, Secure Wipes
PHARMACY: Various drugs that may affect sweating but may cause side effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision and sedation.
Anticolinergics are used to relieve cramps or spasms of the intestines or bladder but may cause a decrease in sweating. Some of these are:
Glycopyrrolate: Robinul, Robinul Forte, Avert (Canada)
Oxybutynin: Ditropan
Propantheline Bromide causes a systemic decrease in sympathetic response. Other uses include treatment for high blood pressure and arrhythmia: ProBanthine
Beta Blockers have systemic anti-sympathetic effects that are helpful in decreasing the body's sympathetic response. Also used to treat high blood pressure: Indural

IONTOPHORESIS: Treatment consists of applying low intensity electrical currents to the hands or feet. Initially has to be repeated several times a week. Sources are:
OTHER TREATMENTS:
Botox (Botulinum Toxin Injections) Works by interferring with the effect of neuro transmitters and paralyzing the sympathetic nerves. Temporary treatment that has to be repeated two or three times a year.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure involving removing the sweat glands by a suction catheter from under the skin in treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis.
Herbal Remedies such as St. John's Wort, Kava Kava, Chamomile, Valerian, Silica. Some informative websites are:
Treatment of Anxiety is accomplished occasionally with anti-depressants such as: Xanax, Zoloft, or Prozac.
ENDOSCOPIC THORACIC SYMPATHECTOMY (ETS): This option should only be considered if all else has failed.
There are many surgeons websites available. We strongly recommend that you research both the surgeon and the operation as thoroughly as possible. Become familiar with such terms as compensatory sweat, gustatory sweat, Horner's Syndrome, Kuntz Nerves, Anhidrosis, and Thermoregulatory Imbalance.
Finally, we suggest you read the message boards top to bottom. There is a ton of information available, so go back and read through the posts. There you can read our member's experiences and what worked for them and what didn't.
