My Final Year Project back to Files

Summary

The PC-Based Electronic Receptionist is designed and developed to extend the use of

the telephone system. PC-Based Electronic Receptionist enables a company to handle

incoming calls effectively (especially international calls at night), and the calling party has a chance to leave a Voice Mail, so that the company will not miss any important call.

PC-Based Electronic Receptionist consists of 2 major interfaces that link the telephone, PC and devices together. These interfaces are the Telephone to microcontroller interface and Telephone to Computer interface. The Telephone to microcontroller interface of PC-Based Electronic Receptionist consists:

    1. Ringing Detector Circuit

    2. Microcontroller Interface

The Telephone to Computer interface of PC-Based Electronic Receptionist consists:

    3. On-Off Hook Detector Circuit

    4. Bridge Between Phone Line and Sound Card

    5. Switching Module

A special feature of the Telephone to Computer interface is that it enables audio signal from the PC to be channeled to the telephone line. The audio signals are voice instructions that request the user for the appropriate target name, and the system will recognize the name (voice form) and put into the text form, then channels the call to the called party, otherwise leave a voice mail.

Since the PC-Based Electronic Receptionist Telephone is based on the PC and microcontroller AT89C51, it uses a window-based program developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0. Since it is a Windows-based program, it creates a user-friendly environment and users are able to control the application workflow directly using the PC.

End.
