Bowie and Underwood form their first group THE KONRADS. David calls himself DAVY JAY, and they later call themselves THE HOOKER BROTHERS.

David's manager,Ralph Horton, suggests to Ken Pitt that David change his name as there were already several Davy Jones' in the music biz, most notoriously in the group THE MONKEES. David chooses the name BOWIE as "a truism for cutting thru the lies" from the double bladed knife bearing the same name.
