Basquiat

Starring David Bowie as Andy Warhol!.
Biography of New York painter Basquiat, who was discovered by Andy Warhol. David Bowie's Warhol has been called one of the truest Warhols ever to be shown in film.

David Bowie: Serious Moonlight

Starring David Bowie. 1984 Rated PG. The concert from his "Let's Dance" album. This is the only time David sold out, so you get to hear all his greatest hits at once. Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/12/1999.

Labyrinth

Starring David Bowie. 1986 Rated PG. David plays Jareth the Goblin King in this Jim Henson and George Lucas collaboration. Don't let the big names fool you, it's pretty campy, but David is very cute. Bowie also wrote five of the twelve songs on the movie soundtrack. The rest is background music that Terry Jones wrote using David's melodies. Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/15/1999.

Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence

Starring Director: Nagisa Oshima. Cast: Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Bowie..
A taboo-breaking film set in a Japanese prisoner's camp in the Pacific during WW II, about the relation between the camp's commander (Sakamoto) and one of the prisoners (Bowie). Beautiful acting (including a scene where Bowie sings horribly off-key) and a stunning climax (no, not giving that one away). The actors were hard-pressed during the shooting of this film, because Oshima preferred to shoot only one or two takes of every scene. Soundtrack provided by Sakamoto.

Reality

Starring David Bowie as himself.
David's career-spanning performance on the Reality DVD is a historic piece right for any Bowie fan's collection. The lighting from the 2003 concert is simply spectacular, not to mention the sound on the 30 songs included on this disc. David is as young as ever sporting a stylish black jacket, t-shirt and Chuck Taylors. And yes, he's wearing pants. Watch him perform the classics like 'Ziggy Stardust' and 'All the Young Dudes' as well as his newer, more sophisticated pieces like 'Reality.' It's a beautiful spectacle of musical proportions.

The Hunger

Starring David Bowie, Susan Sarandon, and Catherine Deneuve. 1983 Rated R, Sexual Content. A horror film about vampires who live in New York city and are trying to find the secrets to immortality. David pulls out a remarkable performance and he's up against some of the best. Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/20/1999.

The Man Who Fell To Earth

Starring David Bowie. 1976 Rated R Nudity, Sexual Content. This science fiction film is based on the book of the same name. David Bowie's first starring role, he portrays an alien disguised as a human who is put on Earth to find a way to ship water back to his dying planet. It is directed by Nicolas Roeg and is critically acclaimed. Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/12/1999.

The Third Man

Starring An unknown cast and Orson Welles. 1949 Rated PG B&W This is the movie that David Bowie's character in The Man Who Fell To Earth watches while he is in captivity. Orson Welles did not direct this adaptation of a Graham Greene novel, but he makes a short and memorable appearance. This tense post World War II film noir peice is a classic and can not be missed. I'm hard pressed to come up with the plot without giving anything away. You'll love this! Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/15/1999.

Yellowbeard

Starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, etc..
This old-fashioned pirate film features:
- Graham Chapman, John Cleese, and Eric Idle (all from Monty Python)
- Cheech and Chong
And one scene featuring David Bowie.

David Bowie was having a holiday on a beach near the location where the film was shot, when he was suddenly approached by Eric Idle, asking him whether he would like to be in a pirate film.

Ziggy Stardust-The Motion Picture

Starring David Bowie. 1983 Rated PG. The July 3, 1973 concert, David's surprise last performance as Ziggy Stardust. You watch him say that "this is the last show we'll ever do" in front of his stunned band members and fans. Directed in documentary form by D.A. Pennebaker. Good music, great performance, but for some reason the print is in poor quality. Recommended by CrystalTJapan , 11/12/1999.
