Pinochet and me

By Marc Cooper. Verso Books publisher, 2000. the author was interviewed on Public Radio. and his book sounds excellent. Cooper was a journalist working in Santiago when Pinochet seized power in 1973. The following is a review I read on it: "a concise and utterly terrifying first-hand account of the toll Pinochet's genocidal reign of terror had on Chilean society. His analysis of the long-term political and social consequences of Pinochet's rule serves as a sort of primer for free-market capitalism run amok, South American style. It is also a scathing indictment of US foreign policy toward Chile, a combination of greed and complicity masked by some very undemocratic ans self-serving hypocrisy. this is a very, very important book" Recommended by Kay Muldoon-Ibrahim , 4/14/2001.
