Legend of 1900

Starring Tim Roth.

White Squall
"Based on a true story, the film is set in 1960 as a group of teenaged prep students signs on to Sheldon's [played by Jeff Bridges] floating summer school, conducted on a two-masted brigantine bound for South America" (from movies.yahoo.com)
 
White Squall is the best movie ever made about sail training and education at sea.  Jeff Bridges portrays a hardened captain to perfection.  The "Albatross" is a beautiful brigantine, and the sailing footage is great.
 
I've never seen a movie that expresses how much a person grows when at sea.
