Camera Buying Guide
If you don't have a camera yet, think about getting a good one for the trip. You basically have a choice between two types of cameras:
Point & Shoots and SLRs (Single Lens Reflex).
Point & Shoots:
Advantages: small, compact, easy to carry, auto-everything, $200 or less.
Disadvantages: doesn't allow that much creative control, can't change lenses or use filters.
Recommendations: Canon Sure Shot Classic 120 and Rollei Giro 120 or Rollei Pregos. Olympus Stylus Epic Zooms are popular too.
SLRs:
Advantages: good lenses, complete control of depth of field and shutter speed, use of filters, usually better pictures.
Disadvantages: bigger than P&S, bulkier, more expensive.
Recommendations: Canon Rebel 2000 and Nikon N65... both slightly less than $400.
What else you should buy:
1. 25-50 rolls of color film -- Fuji Reala 100, Fuji Superia 100 and/or 400, Fuji Superia Xtra 400, Kodak Royal Gold 100 or 400.
2. A travel case or pouch for your camera.
3. A neck or shoulder strap (usually comes with camera).
4. Extra batteries.
5. Lead pouch to protect your film from X-ray machines.
6. Cleaning kit for your camera, lenses.
7. For SLR owners only:
a) a UV or Skylight 1A filter or lens hood to protect your lens, a circular polarizer filter.
