Greetings All Centaurs This Centaur community is for all former and current members of Troop D (Air), 3d Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, and Troop F (Air), 4th Cavalry Regiment. If any of you guys are in contact with or locate other Centaurs, make sure you tell them about this group and the Centaur web site at http://www.centaurs.org. Have them contact me through the group or at my other email address, which most of you should have. T-SHIRTS. I have quite a few Centaur T-shirts left over from the reunion, despite everyone buying two or three shirts. The T-shirts can be viewed in the T-Shirt album in the photo section. The yellow shirt is available in sizes medium to 3XL. The gray shirt is in sizes medium to 4XL. The shirts are $15.00 dollars. If you couldn't make the reunion, I will take mail orders. Just tell me the size, color, and quantity that you want. The money above my expenses will be donated to either the 3/4 Cav scholarship fund or the 25th Division Memorial Fund. Centaur Hat. John Alto (C35, 1965 -1967) had some Centaur hats designed and made for the reunion. The hats were so popular, that he sold out and has had to order more. If you would like a hat, contact me and I will put you in contact with Alto. He has hats for both Trp D (Air) and Trp F (Air). A photo of the Trp F (Air) hat is in the T-shirt album. The hats are $10.00, with any profits going to the 3/4 Cav scholarship fund. Centaurs in Vietnam; Untold Stories of the First Year. Carl Burns (1965 - 1967) has put together a selection of first person stories about the Centaurs first year in Vietnam, March 1966 to March 1967. Although most of the Centaurs at the reunion bought a copy of the book, Burns has quite a few copies left. If you would like a copy, let me know and I will put you in contact with Carl. The books are $22.00, with any profits going to the 3/4 Cav scholarship fund. Centaur Rosters. I have loaded several Centaur rosters to the documents section. The rosters identify the Centaurs we have been able to locate, Centaurs who were KIA/MIA, Centaurs who died after their tour, a partial list of Centaur awards and decorations, and men we have confirmed to have been in one of troops but are still lost. 3d Sqdn, 4th Cav Reunion, 26 - 29 June 2008. The reunion at Fort Mitchell was a hugh success. The Centaurs were represented by 87 old troopers, with 58 wives and guests. I do believe that a good time was had by all, especially the 34 first timers. Photos of the various reunion activities can be found in the Pictures section. 2010 Reunion. The next 3/4 Cavalry Chapter Reunion and Centaurs Tea and Crumpets Session will be in Tucson, AZ the weekend of 28 April - 2 May 2010. Mark those dates on your calendar and plan on being in Tucson. Watch this page for additional details as I get them. College Scholarships. Each year, the 25th Infantry Division Association award two scholarships to a child or grandchild of a 3/4 Cav trooper. To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, the student's father/grandfather must have been a member of the 25th Inf Div Assn for at least one year. If you want some information on the scholarship program, see the winter (Jan) issue of the Association magazine or contact me. 3/4 Cav Chapter Membership If you are a member of the 3/4 Cav Chapter and have not paid your dues for this year, do so as soon as possible. If you aren't a member of the chapter, I encourage you to join the group. The dues are $10.00 annual and $75.00 life. Check the 3/4 Cav website at http://www.3-4cav.com for information about joining the group and where to send the membership form and dues . Attache a copy of your DD214 or other proof of service to the application. A printable copy of the application is in the group documents section. You should also join the 25th Inf Div Assn. The dues are $20.00 for an annual membership. Life membership is based on your age: 51-60 is $200.00; 61-70 is $130; and 70+ is $50. A copy of the application is in the latest issue of the 25th ID Assn magazine. Send your application and check to 25th Inf Div Assn, P.O. Box 7, Flourtown, PA 19031-0007. Attach a copy of your DD214 or other proof of service to the application. A printable copy of the application is in the documents section. If you are a former or current Centaur from either Troop D or Troop F and would like to join the group, send me the following information when you request membership. I need your dates with the troop, section/platoon assigned to, duty position, troop location while you were with it, and, if you remember, the names of anyone your served with. I have been having a problem with "wanna-be's" trying to join the group. Family members. If a member of your immediate family (husband, father, son, brother) was a Centaur and you would like to join the group, I need his information (above) before I will let your join the group. If you change or are planning on changing your email address or email service, you will have problems getting into the community. If you change and you can't get in, you will have to submit another request to join the group, since the server will not recognize your new email address. Just let me know who you are and your old address and I will let you back in and delete your old information. Reminders Charles "Charlie" Johnson has taken over the web site manager duties from Jim Messina. If you have photos or stories that you would like on the web site, send them on down to Charlie. His email address is on the web site at http://www.centaurs.org. If you have questions, comments, or what ever, let me know. "Dinky" Dow |
