Welcome to My Cairn Terrier page!

My name is Peg Vince

I think there is nothing better than a Cairn. These terriers are a big dog in a little dogs body. They have no Idea that they are little (14 to 16 lbs). If you want a little lap dog this is not the breed for you. Cairns do not like to be picked up a lot. They rarely sit on your knee, but they love to be with you. One of my guys is sleeping at my foot as I write this. The other two are on either side of my chair. Jock gets the foot because he thinks he's boss and the girls let him have his illusions, as they are very loving and happy. These little dogs were bred to hunt in a pack so the only thing better than one cairn is two or more. They have very large teeth because they were sent to kill their prey. Some of the animals these little dogs were sent after were pretty nasty : badgers, rats, and other vermin, to name a few. They know how to think for themselves. They are fairly high energy and love to go for long walks or runs, but you must keep them leashed because they are not the most obedient dogs you could have. Dogs that think for them selves do not always believe that you know best. You have to be their alpha. In other words you must earn their respect as well as their love. They live happily in a house or apartment with the right family. If you get a ball player you can exercise them in the house. These dogs have what is called a double coat. They have a soft undercoat and a hard outercoat that needs to be hand stripped once a year. They do not shed like other dogs do. There are not a lot of breeders of this little dogs as they have never been real popular. We who love this breed think this is a good thing. I will not sell to just anyone. People have told me that It is easier to adopt a baby than get a Cairn puppy from me. I hand raise my puppies and love them all. So I feel I have to be as sure, as I can be, when I place a puppy, that the home and family they go to will be theirs for all of their life time. By the way they have a long lifespan (12 to 18 years). Some Cairns have lived to 25 years. Being the owner of a Cairn Terrier is a very large commitment .

Thank you for your interest
