Volunteer- at a hospital, nursing home. Seeing people & helping people with bigger problems other than your own helps to put things in perspective. A break up is terrible however, not as bad as dying or recovering from an accident. I can think of alot of things much worse.

Go out and buy yourself a new pair of shoes, or a new outfit.  And as you wear them, think to yourself "He/she hasn't seen these shoes/clothes" so in other words, you have changed something about yourself to make your self feel better about you.  Either that or go get a new hair-do.  I did all three the day that I got broke up with and I felt so much better about things.
Also, pray, pray , pray.  The Lord will show you what you need to do with the time you have alone.  Begin reading the Bible, get involved in church.

I found it so helpful to be writing down nearly everything :) It's much, much more better than staring at the ceiling, feeling sorry for thyself! I'm now at the 3rd day of 'being alone' but I feel unexpectedly so much better than yesterday and the day before that.
Start writing, write everything down, don't try to limit yourself.  Besides, it may be helpful to look back on this, because as some said, breaking up will be a life expereince that people should learn on :)

I joined www.simplysolo.co.uk loads of help and support there. Emotional
financial, legal support plus they have got chatrooms for all these things as well,
jeeez people are helping each other its a great idea. I joined recently, you get your
own space and loads of useful tools as well. The post-its are great you can find clubs
and single people holidays - with no single person supliment - save a fortune lol, anyway
just thought I'd share that with you.

Make flash cards for yourself... of all the reasons you don't, shouldn't and wouldn't want to be with that person anyway. when things are over whelming it helps to be able to review the things that are & where bad abt the relationship anyway

The steps are indeed helpful.  Thank you.  I decided to focus my energy by volunteering at church and getting a second job.  I'm meeting new people, making more money and slowly realizing life goes on.
