Our Philosophy Our web community will actively encourage the following values: - Respect and Compassion:
- In order to encourage respect and compassion in our web community, we ask that community members refrain from giving advice. We feel that it is disrespectful to tell other community members how to live their lives. However, it is very respectful to offer understanding, support, and hope.
- It is very helpful when community members tell what helped or hindered their own recovery. This teaching by personal example is much more respectful to others than direct advice giving.
- It is also very helpful when community members cite useful research or articles on the web that might prove helpful to other members.
- Trust:
We want our web community to be a gathering place for sincere, helpful people dealing with Bipolar Disorder whose wisdom you can trust. That is why our staff will routinely remove messages that promote false claims of miraculous cures or other untruths. Posting Messages When posting your messages, please select the correct message board on the left of the screen to store your message. Religious Tolerance Many of our community members have gained great strength from their religious faith while coping with Bipolar Disorder. Since our community is composed of members of many different faiths; all we ask is that members respect each other's religions and not try to argue with or convert nonbelievers to their faith. Banned Activities -
It is our policy to warn anyone showing flagrant disrespect [e.g., foul language], and to delete their disrespectful posting. If this disrespect persists, the member is banned from the community. -
Likewise, we will warn anyone showing religious intolerance [e.g., stating that there is only one "true faith"], and to delete their intolerant posting. If this religious intolerance persists, the member is banned from the community. -
No advertisements (for research subjects, support for special projects, or commercial enterprises), or internet links to web sites promoting these activities are allowed. We Are Not A Substitute For Professional Care This web community is an inappropriate resource for those who are actively suicidal or dangerously psychotic. These are medical emergencies that require immediate psychiatric care from trained professionals. However, our members are very willing to share their experience, strength and hope with others, like themselves, who are courageously dealing with Bipolar Disorder. Welcome to our community!
