Let's write a story that never ends. It can take twists and turns, be logical or ridiculous, provide a moral or leave us scratching our heads, make us laugh or make us HOWL with laughter. Just type 2 or 3 sentences to keep the story moving along. Wait until at least 3 entries have been added before you jump back into the storybook to scribble a few more lines. Be sure to NUMBER your entry in sequence. This could be fun! I'll start us off.....

A man was walking along the railroad tracks in total darkness. He cursed the moon for hiding behind the clouds as he slid his toe along the side of the track to guide him. Startled, he came to a dead stop when he heard a low, ominous growl.

He stopped breathing so he could listen better, and sure enough, that low, rumbling growl pierced the night again. "Aw, shucks!" he said to his stomach, "I'll feed you just as soon as I can find civilization again." His eyes searched what seemed to be miles ahead and spotted a faint yellow glow.

"Wonderful" he said to himself and his stomach. "A place to find rest and food." He started running toward the glowing yellow light. Suddenly he realized the yellow light was moving swiftly toward him. That's when he heard the toot-toot signal of the train whistle. Jumping quickly off the high railroad bridge, he felt himself tumbling head over heels toward the dark, muddy, rushing water below.

As his tumbling seemed never ending, it did though with a large splash. Dazed and disoriented and with water rushing past his head he thought that it might have been better to stay on the tracks and meet the train head on. As he didn't want to leave this world with water in his lungs. Within seconds he regained his composure and started fighting the water. Only to find that he could touch bottom, it was only about three foot deep.

As he was crawling, wading, swimming to gather his composure, he now noticed that the rumbling in his gut had ceased. Now there was a real problem dead ahead.

The clouds had finally parted and a bright, full moon reflected on the eyes amongst the trees along the bank. He swallowed hard and clenched his jaw. Inaudible, even to himself, he whispered "Wolves!"

As he stood there pondering his fate, he heard a sound behind him. Slowly turning, in the shadows he saw what looked like a canoe floating toward him.

He heard giggles coming from the bushes and little hands clapping. Someone with a very high-pitched voice said, "Oh, goody, here comes thecanoe with Dorothy and Toto. Now we Munchkins can head for the Emerald City."

Staring at the oncoming canoe in the moonlight, there did seem to be a young girl and small dog aboard. The sounds of small feet and voices were coming from behind him in the bushes. His heart was pounding as he put his hand to his forehead. It was then that he felt the large knot that had raised just below his hairline.

Upon further investigation, he discovered mosquitoes all around him. He quickly hailed the canoe and asked to join them on their journey.

The little girl said that would be fine and please get in. As he was trying to get into the canoe, yep, you guessed it, he overturned it and spilled them all in the stream.

Laughing their heads off at the slapstick they'd just witnessed, the Munchkins plunged in to haul the girl, the dog, the boat and the coughing, sputtering man to shore. And that's where he awoke, shivering and alone, just as the sun climbed the back of the mountain and shoved its face through the trees at the top.

At first he thought it was a bad dream he was waking up from. That was until he saw and touched the canoe. "This was no dream," he thought. And with a hurting head and a cold and wet body, he put the canoe back into the water and carefully got in. And as the water took over, and with no paddle, his thoughts were of home. He would let fate be his rudder.

The stream carried the canoe as the waters rushed fast by the shore, too fast for him to control the direction. The water flow was speeding faster and faster as it neared what looked like the end of the stream that stopped in mid air without anything beyond.

Fear striking his heart again, "What am I to do now?" he asked himself. Suddenly a great white light struck the canoe and the surrounding water, immediately freezing it. The canoe slid effortlessly down the frozen slide into....

a peaceful blue lagoon surrounded by weeping willows filled with the most beautiful tropical birds. Funny, he thought to himself, willows are unusual in the tropics.

And he pinched himself to make sure he was awake. "How can I be here ?" he thought. The man was sure he hadn't fallen asleep. But it was the only reason he could think of that made sense. Unless, and he hoped he was wrong, he had stumbled into a hole in time.

While carefully looking around to get his bearings, he spotted a nubile vision standing on the beach of the lagoon. There was a young Brooke Shields, clad only in her bikini, beckoning to him to join her ashore. Now if he were dreaming, he never wanted to wake up!! But as he started making his way to shore.............

He stumbled forward, heart beating wildly. Just as he was at the edge of the beach, there was a flash of light and "poof," Brooke Shields was now Capt. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise.

Kirk squinted into the sun and yelled, "Bones, is that you?! Hurry! Spock is still in the water and I just saw a Great White out there with jaws the size of a shuttle craft." The man quickened his pace, just in case he really was "Bones."

Just as he was near enough to grab Kirk's hand, another blinding light. When he could see again he was on a sandbar in the middle of the river and the canoe was gone. "What is happening?" he thought. He sat down to rest and try to make some sense of everything.

He rubbed the knot on his head as the tracks, train, river, canoe, mosquitoes, frozen waterfall, blue lagoon, Brooke Shields, Munchkins and Captain Kirk tumbled around in his mind. His stomach growled at about 10 decibels. "Must be starvation delirium," he laughed.

As he sat there pondering everything that had happened and his growing hunger pains, he was looking at the nearest shore to the sandbar. He knew that he had fo find something to eat before long and get off of that sandbar. He figured the water could not be too deep and the shore was about a hundred yards away; knowing that he could swim well enough to make it that far, he waded into the river.

Then he heard it....that ominous sound: TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK. It was the crocodile from Never-never Land, smacking his lips in anticipation of another bite of delicious pirate flesh. "No, no," he screamed, scrambling back up on the sand bar, "you've got it all wrong, I'm not Captain Hook."

The ticking got louder and louder. As he turned to follow the sound, he was amazed! There was Gene, Noah, Sheila, Ron and Kay, all sitting at the kitchen table. Come on! Sit down and have something to eat {Noah said}. Sheila, being the gracious host, put a large helping of food in front of him. He ate fast, thinking someone would steal it from him. As the hunger subsided and his stomach stopped roaring so loudly, he smiled and said......

I thank you all so graciously, Gene, Noah, Sheila, Ron and Kay. You've saved my life by not letting me starve to death. He started to feel his body become so at ease as he became relaxed from the food and warmth. Slowly nodding his head he drifted off to sleep for only a few moments, suddenly awakened by the strange sound once again, the growling of hunger pains he felt once more, then realizing the food he had eaten and Gene, Noah, Sheila, Ron and Kay were only a dream. He looked around for a few moments then screamed, "I feel like I'm dying!"

And in his weakened state his life flashed before his eyes. From a child to an adult. Going to a school with an owl on the roof that blinked at nite ball games. How he wished he could see that one more time, if this was really the end. And thinking of fellow classmates it calmed him enough to lay his head down and sleep.

He was in a deep sleep when all of a sudden a humming noise awoke him and lights were flashing in his eyes. His eyelids were heavy, but hetried to keep his eyes open enough to determine what the big purple-blob with the bright light intended to do. "Oh, no that purple-blob is in a saucer-shaped vehicle......and he is carrying a black bag," he thought.

Suddenly, the big purple blob began singing, "I love you, you love me, we're as happy as can be....." and he knew hewas safe ....it was Barney, the Purple Dinosaur. And in the black bag was a picnic lunch which Barney had brought. Now at last he would really get to eat....no more stomach growling, no more hallucinations about food....his friend Barney had brought enough food to feed a whole family....even a big cake for dessert and lots of good things to drink. He was so excited until he realized ..............

....realized that the black bag resting on his belly belonged to the doctor who was peering into his eyes with a tiny flashlight. As the roar in his ears began to fade, he heard, "... wonder who he is? ... Big Creek Owl on his tee shirt ... rock slide blocking the tracks ... pretty bad lump on his head ... carrying no identification ... no broken bones, at least ... looks like he's coming back around." He tried to sit up to see the faces that went with the voices, but the doctor pushed him back with, "Easy fellow, you've taken a nasty blow -- what's your name?"

He opened his mouth to speak, and realized he didn't know! "Who am I? Who are you? Who are these people standing around? Who?Who?Who?!!!" Someone chuckled and said, "He even sounds like an Owl." "Don't worry about that right now," the doctor winked, "some Owl will recognize you and tell you who you are."

His head was spinning trying to remember who he was. Who am I? Who was this doctor in a green and white suit? He thought that was strange for a doctor to wear such clothes. That is until he remembered what was sticking out of his pocket.

... with his head still spinning, he pondered upon on the question once more. Nothing! ......Where am I? ............ "What can be happening to me?" ..............Why can't I remember? Wait a minute! There's a major flaw in this picture! ......... I'm a girl, not a boy! .......... Suddenly hundreds of Big Creek Owls were soaring over her head! ........It was as though struck by a bolt of lightening. She leaped up and exclaimed, "I have a date with an angel!" ... Will it be at our beloved Pipestem ... or on a cruise to Bermuda or Canada? or ....and who is this angel? .... Help me!

As the mists swirl round and round, the scene keeps changing....there was the beautiful angel, but now she seems to be dressed entirely in blue and holding a magic wand. Why, it's Glenda, the good witch from Oz, here to grant the wish of our heroine to return home to the land of the OWLS, to our beloved BCHS. But something is troubling Glenda as she whispers, "Save Big Creek. Save Big Creek. Go home and fight the evil Manchin. Leave the Munchkins in OZ and go fight the villain Manchin in WV. Save Big Creek. Save Big Creek." So with a determined nod of her head, our heroine turns her face toward those West Virginia Hills, so majestic and so grand, and sets off to save Big Creek. But will she be successful......only Manchin knows and he says................

After all that talking Glenda felt parched so she toodled off to Cecile's for a can of Blue Ribbon and a pickled pigs knuckle, on the way there Big Wes's white hearse ran her off the road and she got hung up in the ditch. Not one to give up she commenced to hitch hiking at which time Red Carrol came by in his garbage truck and kindly offered her a ride...

Glenda was rather short and knew she couldn't step up into that garbage truck so she asked Red Carrol to please call for a tow truck on his cell phone.

But Red had left the cell phone in the Motorhome left at the Condo. So Red pulled over to the side of the road and sent up smoke signals from the trash dump where the embers were still burning. Unfortunately, no one else could read the smoke signals that Red sent up into the clouds!

Well, they got there in time to see that the Big Creek Owl Super Hero had already put things right. "Who was that masked stranger?" Glenda wondered aloud as he flew high and away. "Heck, I don't know," Homer said, "but I'm taking the train back home. Anybody wanna ride with me?"

With wide eyes and an innate sense of satisfaction, Glenda watched as Homer departed. The train jerked forward with a lunge and then continued on with a familiar clickity-clack. That's when Glenda recognized the uncanny rhythmic beat of "On On Green and White", the Owls' school song.

Meanwhile, Glenda was finishing up her 3rd Blue Ribbon at Cecils--smoke signals can be like party-lines sometimes you know. Just as she was about to ask for another, in came a big ole burly feller from the head of Bearwallow named Jr. Listening to Glenda's pitiful story he said, "I'll tell ya what I'm going to do". Glenda was leaving the bar on Jr.'s arm with a six pack of Blue Ribbon and a 1963 Big Creek Yearbook under her arm when....
