Below is a message from the BCHS Alumni webmaster, Bill Watkins. If you haven't registered on Bill's website yet, you should! We hope to keep this page updated, so check back from time to time, but be sure to check the Alumni web for new postings on all things below. ~ Sheila
Hi Big Creek Alumni!
Just a quick note to you to get you caught up on what is going on with several things, including:
Alumni Band members asked to play at the Homecoming Game on October 28th:
Please let us know if you want to participate by sending an email to band@bigcreekowls.org. This is going directly to Mr. Courts. Also, please let us know if you will need an instrument. We need this ASAP! If you don't have an instrument, at least borrow or rent something prior to the game and get some practice in, if you can. :>)
Spread the word! We need as many as possible! Currently, we have about 15 Alumni who have volunteered, of which we have only 10 names confirmed so please send an email to the above if you are interested. Those who have already sent an email should have been added to the Alumni Band mail list.
Also, to stay up on what the band plans to do, sign up for the Alumni Band mail list here: http://bigcreekowls.org/mailman/listinfo/alumniband_bigcreekowls.org. This is a shared mail list where any message sent to the list will go to everyone.
Latest on the plans for the All-Class Reunion: There is no doubt that there will be a lot of folks attending this great event. Here are some ways that you can help:
Go the alumni site and vote whether or not you plan to attend. You should only be able to vote once. This will give us a rough idea of how many will be attending plus we will assume about half of you will bring a spouse or significant other. You should see the different Polls on the right side of the alumni web site at http://www.bigcreekowls.org.
Please get the word out to any of your classmates that might not be aware of this. If they don't have Internet access, please print this out and mail it to them or call them or tell them. I understand there is a lot of talk about this reunion in the City of War. If any of you have heard anything on the radio or seen anything in the newspapers about this reunion, please email me to let me know. Scott Jordon, Class of 1994, has sent info to the local radio stations and newspapers and we need to know if it's happening!
Be prepared to have fun! There is supposed to be a lot of things for sale there. We are also considering a raffle for a set of Big Creek High School dishes (for a set of 8). Let us know of any other ideas you may have. According to Jessica Hicks, Class of 1989, "We will be selling all sorts of memorabilia. Like shirts, hats, cups, maybe plaques made out of bleachers, umbrellas..."
I would like to do a couple of gate prizes for those who fill out an alumni card, a way for us to get contact information on our classmates. If we can pre-print a bunch of 3by5 cards to get everone's address, phone # and email address, this will help for future class reunions. Any suggestions?
If you would like to help, in any way, please send me an email -> volunteer@bigcreekowls.org. Let me know how or when you can help. I know some of you have contacted me in the past. If I have not responded back to you, please send me another email. We had some email forwarding challenges since this all started and I may not have received anything from you. It has just been resolved so please contact me if you would like to help, either prior to or during the Homecoming Game. We definitely need a few volunteers before and during the first half of the game to hand out and collect alumni contact cards. I hope to be playing in the Alumni Band, so please volunteer. The more help we get, the less time the volunteers will need to spend at this. Also, would anyone like to organize the volunteers? Please send an email to volunteer@bigcreekowls.org.
I haven't discussed this with the High School yet but someone asked if they can open up the school and gym prior to the game for any of the Alumni to view them. I will contact them as soon as I possibly can. If any of you reading this have contact with the High School and those who might have authority for this, please contact me and them and help us make this happen. Be sure to let me know as soon as possible so I don't duplicate your efforts.
Class of 1965 will meet on October 21-22 in Bluefield at the Holiday Inn. Please see the 1965 News section of the Message Board on the alumni website. Linda Dykes Pantili is the one who has put this one together with the help of some others. Contact her via the Message Board. You classmates attending, be sure and take plenty of pictures to share with us, OK?
Class of 1975 & 1976 is planning a reunion. They are looking for contact info for all their classmates. Please see the Class Reunion Section of the Message Board, alumni website.
Class of 1995 was planning something but I'm not sure. Look in the 1995 Class Members section of the Alumni Message Board for contact information.
In case you haven't seen it yet, there is a Picture Gallery on the Alumni web site. I will soon be upgrading to a new version which will allow the members who have registered on the message board to share that same login so you can easily upload pictures to this web site. I only ask that you keep them as small as 1024 by 1024 pixels in size so that we will have the drive space to handle them. I hope to accomplish this prior to the coming reunions so that folks can share their pictures. If you need help, please contact me.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Homecoming Game and All-Class Reunion on October 28th. I already have my flight booked and a room reserved (at my sister's house ;-). Thank the many of you who have volunteered your time, efforts and ideas. Keep it coming!
