Joining and Application Policy

The managers of the Aquarium & Tropical Fish Keeping Community request that when you fill out an application please write us a little explanation about why you would like to join.  MSN limits the amount you can write in the application, so keep it to a few short sentences.

 We are very unlikely to approve people that only write a few words such as "I like fish" this is to try to protect members from advertisers that only want to steal exposed email addresses from our member lists. We would also suggest that you leave your email address hidden, for double protection from spammers and malicious users. This site does not collect email addresses, nor do we want our member's to suffer from it. We find spam and virus problems to be one of the most annoying things about the internet today.

Automatic Emails sent to your Inbox

Please note that when you fill out the application, you will be given a chance to receive automatic emails from every post generated on the boards. We highly recommend that you do NOT sign up for this feature since it may overwhelm your email box. You may change these settings later, using the "member tools" link on the left column. The three choices for email settings are thus

1. Inbox = 1 email for every post on the forum

2. Daily Digest = 1 email summary for entire day

3. On the Web= No email from this forum

Note that MSN calls this "A really cool feature!" when you apply, but it is our firm warning that you will be deluged with email from this group if you sign up for it. You will be able to change your personal settings later - just ask.

Cancellation Policy

We feel that in order to give each & every member the appropriate time & individual attention, you as members need to be just as dedicated, so we hope you will respect our methods of approving and canceling all memberships to maintain quality, not quantity. We tend to only cancel memberships where people have not contributed in any way, for about 1 year. You may rejoin at any time if your membership is terminated for lack of activity.

Message threads or posts that say little more than "Join this group" or "Look at this website" will be removed if the link does not directly contribute to the topic. Furthermore any member that tries to forward members to other message boards will be banned. The one exception to this rule will be in the "Fishy Bay-Buy and Sell" message boards. We will take the member's overall posting history into account when determining if such a post or member is to be removed. We do allow our members to post any URLs, as long as it's part of a valid contribution to an ongoing thread, but not simply as means of promoting another website or group. This is an educational, non-profit website meant only to dispense the best advice possible, for the betterment of the hobby and the ethical treatment of our fishy friends.
