| Welcome to Andy’s Science Fiction lesson plan pages (last changed 7/25/03 - see change page for more). These pages are intended to provide teachers in high school/college with some ideas for using science fiction, particularly in the areas of physics and biology, but also in literature/English. I’m not a teacher myself, but I have an extensive background in both science and science fiction (more). First, a good question: What is Science Fiction and why might it be helpful in education? Study Guides Science Fiction Terms Science Fiction Themes Recommended Books Resources for Teachers I recommend that teachers with an interest in using Science Fiction check out the Reading For The Future Project site and The Webs of Wonder contest site, which awards $1000 to the site which best helps teachers use SF in the classroom (in 2000, the first year this contest was held, this page and James Van Pelt's Time Machine site shared the prize - for more, see here). Finally, I am pleased to be able to make available a short novel Jerks (also known as The Arrival), written by a student named Matt Dunster - see here for details and the story itself. |
